I got to a chance to handle the Paul Chen Albrecht II at my NYHFA practice that belonged to one of the other members. The Good - I found it to be fairly stiff compared to some other Windlass swords I have handled. It was thick enough so that it did not vibrate when I taped it. Not bad for a thrusting sword. The Bad - The guy had just cut a few bottles and the pommol was loose. I told the guy that as he does bottle cutting the pin that goes through the pommol will continue to move sligtly back and forth. Over time that bending back and forth will weaken the pin and it will break as had my Gen 2 H&H. Same exact issue. The handle on this sword is way to long for such a thin tang/pin. The peeing job was light too. Given how large the pommol is, they could have put a monster tang/pin on this sword. I found the large pommol to uncomfortable but that is my personal feeling. I suspect that given its size it must be hollow. Here is the sword I am talking about. www.reliks.com/merchant.ihtml?pid=2516

Hey Tsafa. Thats actually a Paul Chen Hanwei Albrecht II. Although I know there is another brand that does them.
I have the Hanwei Practical hand and a half - which is the same sword but less ornate and blunt. Mine has a pretty substantial tang through the pommel. And theres no movement in the pommel, just the cross.
If it is the Hanwei you mean, you may remember my thrusting tests on the 40 gallon drum. Its quite sufficient. I have my blade ground down just like the Albrecht II.

Windlass makes a model. It's reviewed here: www.myarmoury.com/review_mrl_alb.htmltsafa, your link looks like the hanei to me, by the look of the grip and the windlass model in the review appears to have a threaded pommel instead of peened.

Yep, Ric's right.. the link referenced byTsafa is that of Hanwei Albrecht II. I own a same piece, though not from Reliks. Blade's got a nice point yet stiff enough to cut, and the balance is incredible.
I've not seen the one from the 'angelfire' website, though.

The guy said he got his sword from Relicks. I will change the tittle since you guys seems certain it is a Paul Chen. It is definetly not the one that RickWilly posted. Relicks is not very good about stating who the manufacturer is.

They might be getting rid of all their old stock, before upgrading to the solid pommel. That being said, you could always ask when you purchase it if they can get the new version in for you...

Yeah, I been considering buying one, it might be a while before the new one hits the market. It has been at that price for a while now, KOA usually has the lowest prices I notice. Still and all the word on that one is usually good, with a few problems swords sure. No perfect swords.

Regarding KoA, the price for the regular Albrecht II has been $199 as long as I can remember, but what baffles me is the antiqued version is $288. Something weird here. The rest of their models are the same price for standard vs antiqued (where option is present).
I'll probably be tracking down one of the newer models, ideally in person prior to purchase, some time early next year. I'll have to handle it before I buy it, to see exactly what has improved over the old model.

The price varies so much between vendors, I wonder what the improved one will go for.
