Wasn't sure where else to put this, but I figured if anyone would know, it would be the great people here at SBG. Every time I've posted (albeit a scant few times) I've recieved great answers.
I've been practicing with a local Renaissance reenactment group in the last months, specifically in blunted live-steel fencing. I've been using the Hanwei Practical Norman, and while I love it, it's not my ideal style. I have a Practical Mortuary on it's way, and while many guys in the group use it, I know it's not period accurate and as much as I'm sure I'll enjoy fighting with it, I'm also sure that the accuracy bit will chap my hide.
The reason I purchased the Mortuary is because I cannot for the life of me find a blunted live-steel Schiavona sword. I've always loved the Schiavona, and would love to fight WITH one. The Mortuary isn't really anything like it, but the hilt style will at least fool me enough, I suppose.
Does anyone know of a company that makes a Schiavona like this?

Go look at Armour Class of Scotland's website. Their Mortuaries and Schiavonas are absolutely to die for. I will have one, one day. www.armourclass.co.uk/EDIT: Hmm, if you're wanting a stage steel blade, you may be able to get one from windlass or hanwei to fit one of ACoS's basket hilts. I haven't seen a blunted Schiavona anywhere, but you could always get a sharp and do that yourself, if you were so inclined, or switch back and forth.

www.darkwoodarmory.com/index.php ... cts_id=167 You can talk to these folks if you want to supply a blade you would like hilted. They have several schivona styles. Darkwood isn't cheap, but if you hold them to task you can get some outstanding work out of them. Armour Class is incredibly economical for what they output, consequently they are in demand. Expect a six month wait.

I'd also suggest Armour Class. They made me a mortuary years ago and it is a pure joy...my favorite "reproduction" I have. Time / period wise...the Schiavona & mortuary hilts were used during the same basic period -mid 1600's....so they are both a little out of the Reniassance time.

By my understanding, the Schiavona was around as early as the 1500's, but thats really neither here nor there for the purposes of this thread.
Those are all great, but way out of my current price range! Well, maybe one day I'll go with one of those! For now, maybe I could get one of the smiths in the group to help me kitbash a couple of swords or something...
On a related note, does anyone know of any manufacturers that make blades that are intended for stage combat, in a similar vein to the Hanwei Practical Norman, Mortuary, etc?
