This is a brief review of the blade found here:
www.kultofathena.com/product~item~KP11~name~Carbon+Steel+Katana+Blade.htm
The Blade:
It is a basic low-end Katana Blade, remniscent of one found on a low-end Masahiro or Musashi.
Description:
(This fully functional 28 inch blade is a great low cost option for anyone whishing to make their own sword. Made of tempered high carbon steel.
Overall Length: 38'' Blade: 28'')
It has no bo-hi, And comes with very little edge, and needs to be sharpened. It has what I believe is the signature of the smith on the blade.
The tang has two holes, so it is possible to create a full-fleged katana with no need to cut metal. I was slightly frustrated with the positioning, one of the holes very close to the edge of the tang, but overall not bad.
Personally, I applied some basic slabs of wood on each side of the tang and inserted two meguki (or mekugi, whatever ) I carved two pencils to the appropriate length for the meguki. I then used a washcloth as same (I know, primitive) and wrapped around an old shoelace as ito wrap. A katana connusier would probably cry if he saw my shoddy work. But oh well, I like it as a beater.
After some cutting, It did take one bad set on a hardened tree trunk, but oh well its not like it bent on a water bottle. (I glance over at my lemon Musashi Bushido Wind Dragon.) Overall:
Historical Accuracy: No Clue, Sorry
Fit and Finish: 4/5 (Some scratches on blade upon arrival, nothing too serious)
Handling: 4/5
Structural Integrity: 4/5
Value for Money: 5/5
Overall, it was a fun little saturday project. It was slightly ruined by the fact that the Hurricanes beat my 'Noles, But Ill try not to let that get in the way of my review.
