I'm really glad darksword is turning out to be so good. I found out about them on SFI like Rammy. but I just couldn't stay away from their Oslo Viking. my only complaint would be the historical accuracy of their products. but for the price I shouldn't be so picky.

Sept: you said that the point is wicked sharp, is that before or after it is sharpened?

The point is wicked sharp before sharpening - but could be easily filed if it was a concern during reenactment.
I'm not sure of all the history on the SFI posts, so I'm willing to give Darksword a fresh start here - can we all commit to that?

I'd have to admit that I too fell in love with this sword the second i saw it. I picked it up and swung it and sure enough it was as good and better then i could imagine. I had a very hard time containing myself from going to town on everything i could find in Dan's basement. It looked amazing and felt amazing. So despite not knowing any of DSA's past i am very very keen on buying from them now and am trying to secure funds as i speak. Hopefully this will give DSA more credibility so that others may begin to see and experience for themselves these incredible swords.

I don't think there's ever been this much enthusiasm for a sword maker since Gus Trim came out with his $300 offer. And I'm drooling over that 15th Century Gothic Two Hander. Just look at that grip! It's octagonal! www.darksword-armory.com/1332.html

...Did someone say they do VIKING swords? Where's my wallet?
Dan, I checked out that review like that hot girl at the wet t-shirt contest, and I'm pleased to say that this girl won the contest. Nice review, old son...for a Scot. Looks like a real winner for the money. I'll have you know that I plan to base my future reviews on yours. That kind of detail can't be beat.
Speaking of my own reviews, I need to get AAA's for the camera. That thing sucks up power when you film movies.

Now if only we could get reviews on these ones: www.darksword-armory.com/1333.html www.darksword-armory.com/1332.html www.darksword-armory.com/1310.htmlI particularly like the Ranger sword - it's probably the most attractive interpretation i've yet seen of it. I like the pommel on the 1332 Gothic sword, but the blade onthe 1333 S-Gothic is gorgeous as well. All three are a very good length for my style of longsword fencing. If I could see reviews of them, I'd be very willing to buy... especially as I just got a promotion and a raise and find myself with a little extra money...

What can I say? I'm a karmaholic!
And yeah, those Gothic swords look fantastic... I pretty much like the entire line. I'm sad that their rapier is no longer in production, since it was the nicest rapier for the price that I'd seen.
I'm glad you guys like this review - I have to admit I was nervous about this sword but it is living up to its hype and more. Once it's sharpened I'll post some videos - but its supirior geometry is already apparent in how it held up in edge-to-edge striking.
Although I am wondering if I won't have to grab that 300$ Atrim after all...

I second that. I wonder how much it weighs though. It doesn't say. Someone review this sword!

I agree, someone should review this sword. Maybe side-by-side with the Gen2 Ranger? See how they hold up?

Sept (or Puaul ;D), how exactly is the pommel attached? I assume the pommel is threaded and has a recess at the bottom to fit over the loose nut/washer? So, like, you thread the nut down over the grip and then thread the pommel on after that?

If it is like I'm seeing it, the pommel just screws off with some force (probably has thread lock on it to keep it tight).

Hi everyone, Again, thanks to all for your continued support. We would also like to thank the author for the detailed review. It is always great to get some feedback on our work. We would like to elaborate on our “bad reputation” on the SFI, as the review indicates. This began about three or four years ago. We started getting bad reviews from SFI forum by two members, one of them who purchased a 35$ apprentice made dagger, and from another user who had never purchased a sword from our company. Their comments resulted in a “snowball” effect on the SFI, resulting in about 20 different posts. We obviously took the reviews very seriously and took appropriate steps to find the source of the reviews, the reason behind them, and to correct the problem. After several days of research we found that the second author was actually a competitor of ours, also located in Montreal. The review was written after we received our first order from ARMA, who had initially ordered their swords from our competitor, but after an ARMA member purchased one of our swords, the group decided to switch over. His reviews were specifically intended to curb our activities (but failed ) . Needless to say, at the time, we contacted the forum administrators, who were of no help at all. They never even replied to our requests and the posts remained online. Nathan, the main administrator of SFI, emailed us to ask whether we would be interested in having one of our swords reviewed on their site in order to rectify the problem. We agreed and were never contacted again. We emailed them on numerous occasions, but again, never received a response. All this to say, that no, our swords never changed. We always produced quality swords. The negative posts were calculated, and unfortunately, the SFI lacked the integrity to control to uphold an honest forum (i.e., if you don’t pay the SFI don’t expect anything to be done…). We, as many other smiths, have since taken the decision not to get involved with the SFI. They are sowing the seeds of their own destruction. A forum is supposed to assemble a group of people who share the same passion. They have a lot of work to do. I am glad to see the existence of a serious forum. We were recently introduced to the forum by Jason, who has written three reviews. Since, we have had the pleasure of talking with many of you on the phone and by email and the response has been great to say the least. We thank you all, Eyal Azerad Darksword Armory www.darksword-armory.com

Darksword, thank you for the clarification. I read the posts on SFI, and what you say indeed agrees with the impression I got from them. I couldn't believe that the same company could have changed so much, so something had to be amiss. The one poster seemed disgruntled because a sword of yours (the elven) resembled one he had had custom made by Christien Fletcher. He hadn't purchased any of your swords, but bad-mouthed your company anyway. I agree that SFI has little in the way of tolerance and cohesion. I liken them to those snobs in highschool, who looked down on anyone outside their group. Naturally, the admins there will side with their own long-time members, as opposed to outsiders. At any rate, thanks for clearing this up. i'm sure you'll receive a warm welcome here on the forum. Keep up the good work!

Could we see photos of how the pommel is attached? It is attached the same way that the knight's sword that Paul reviewed is - check out his review on the main site for that. It has a washer and nut beneath the pommel.

Hi ShooterMike,
Paul's review has a good picture of the construction method. All our swords are made the same way.
Thank you,

I saw the pic in Paul's review. What I'm wondering about is whether the pommel is threaded inside too and screws down over the secondary nut? SInce the pommel and nut are two seperate pieces, there has to be something holding the pommel on top of the nut, or the pommel would just pop off.

Yeah, the pommel is threaded too - quite deeply actually. So you have the secondary nut and washer - and then the pommel is screwed down over the top of that. No chance of a pop off.
