So I found a post on the old forums where Wes put up some pictures of his Hanwei Qi jian. He also mentioned how he was meaning to get it sharpened. I was wondering if you finally got that done and if so does this sword hold it's edge? I heard Hanwei don't exactly make strong swords.
If Wes doesn't find this then maybe if someone else has gotten themselves one of these swords.
Thanks,

Hey there! I answered your PM, but I'll respond here too in case anyone else was wondering. I never did get the jian sharpened, but the issues about hanwei jians has never really been about the blades but rather the hilts. Thin tangs and questionable handle materials have made for iffy cutting swords, but with the Qi Jian the whole thing is a solid piece of steel so there is no worry about poor handle construction. The blade itself flexes almost 90 degrees while returning true, but since I never got around to getting it sharpened before selling it I can't speak to edge retention. Good luck finding out more information. What I can tell you is that it's a gorgeous sword and worth the money

This is a great sword. I have to admit to having it sharpened by KoA, but am very pleased with the results. It cuts quite well and is one of my most favorite swords.

So since it is a solid piece. Should it not be considered like other Hanwei swords? Because I heard that cutting with Hanwei is not a good thing. Could this sword perform as a cutting sword or simply as a form practice and thrusting sword.

It's a narrow blade but I think it would be fine for light targets like bottles. Not sure if I would trust it to tatami.
