G'day, hello greetings or whatever you prefer.
My name is Simon, I am uhh 22 (always have to think about that) and I live in Australia.
I am an amateur weapon smith emphasis on amateur, started messing around with metal 4 years ago, not long after built my first sword from a piece of mild steel with a guard that was basically five pieces of steel welded into a squarish crescent shape with a cedar wooden handle glued in place with the ball joint from a farlaine welded as a pommel.
It was a POS but more of an experiment then anything else.
Ever since then I have been using spring steel to good success, though I always seem to go larger than intended, for instance my last sword was a Shamshir style blade with a wooden L handle and an S guard, the overall length ended up at: 42" (107cm)
I never sell a blade, and don't understand how anyone could, and rarely polish up the sword when I am done, short of a thorough sanding. My last two had a chrome paint sprayed on to dull down the steel and to prevent rusting.
I have yet to fuller a blade as my blacksmithing skill is not up to spec and simply don't want to just cut one out using a grinder.
At the moment I am trying to design a hand and a half sword, the piece of steel I have is 55" (137cm) long and 1.5" (35mm) wide but I am stuck on the pommel and looking for inspiration, I'm thinking of something that is part of the handle there was gonna be a spike on the end, however after some thought I figured that wouldn't be a good idea, in short, I am coming up blank.
I was and am looking for input, something to get me started.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
