Hello all, As I was saying in another post, I got me a new MRL Scimitar a couple of days ago (just like Cold Steel's Shamshir with minor differences). Anyway, I have been handling it a lot along with my other two top choices for self and home defense; my 1860 Cav Sabre and my Katana. But beings as MRL's Scimitar is so light, quick and easy in the hand I have decided it is my new choice for self or home defense, the Katana 2nd. I love my 1860 sabre with its great hand protection, but it is just not as light or quick and fast as either of these (an original would probably be better). But that Scimitar is lighter than the others, so fast and deadly, it has become my favorite. If I remember correctly, MRL used to call this one a shamshir a good while back. Indeed, it is nearly identacle with CS' Shamshir other than handle or grip material, etc. I would like to handle theirs as well. I wonder why MRL changed the name of it? Anyway, some might say a full length sword or sabre is too long for indoor fighting if needs be. But this Scimitar only has like a 30" blade. And if you watch Cold Steel's DVD set "Fighting with the Sabre and Cutlass", or go to Youtube and watch this one called "A point about scimitars" ( ) you will see you don't always have to hold a sword/sabre by its handle and swing or thrust full length with it. There are other ways to hold and gip it for close in fighting, cutting and thrusting. Later, Freebooter
