great podcast Tinker, quick question: you reference a story of Miyamoto Musashi that sounds a lot like the Ikedaya incident. I don't know a lot of musashi stories so maybe there is one that is similar, I'm just wondering which one of us is mixed up. probably me but I thought I'd ask

Listening to #10 now, and just passed that part. Definitely sounds like a possible reference to the Shinsengumi raid on the Ikedaya, if that's the one you're alluding to. Can't say I'm familiar with Musashi engaging in any sort of things, but again, I've not read much on Musashi in a while...well, ever, really. Either way, my first thought at Ikedaya etc. was the Shinsengumi...but what do I know? :x

Ikedaya was definitely Shinsen Gumi and not Musashi, but for all I know this is just one of the Musashi tales and it so happens to remind me of Ikedaya, certainly something like that COULD have happened at pretty much any time.

Actually you guys are more likely than me to be correct on this one; I heard this as an anecdote from I know not where years ago and could easily have the details wrong or been told the story incorrectly. Email me a link to the correct story at theswordgeek.com and some links to source material and I'll happily correct the story on the podcast!
