Review By John K. from PA (first review!)
To start off I am a fan of the series Ruroni Kenshin and I love swords mostly katanas...So i found Kenshins (fully functional) sword on www.Kingofswords.com and of course I wanted it so i bought it. There was a big problem with the shipping it made me very angry. it took one month!!! for it to come, I called, emailed, called some more and emailed Kingofswords everyday yet i got no feedback so one day I found some random email and finally got a response telling me they had a problem with their ware house and they would ship it as soon as they got it. shortly after it was shipped I got it...I think in less then a week so would I recommend kingofswords ehh.. tough call when it was finally shipped it came fast so maybe if there wasn't a warehouse problem then it probably would have came fast
First impressions- It came in a regular cardboard box with a cleaning kit and a nice stand. I first noticed the weight it seemed fairly heavy at least compared to my Rosewood Shirasaya
Blade Length- 28in
Tsuka Length- 10in
Overall- 42in
Tsuba Length- a bit over 3in
POB- 7in
Fit And Finish
The Blade- Very secure sword. It feels like one strong piece of steel. Nothing loose what so ever. The blade is very secure. It is pretty sharp but not as sharp as my Rosewood Shirasaya which you can find a review for on the SBG site. It has an acid sketched hamon which looks pretty good
The Kashira- It is tightly secure and made from some kind of metal. No plastic on this sword. It has some sort of leaf thingy
The Tsuka- The tsuka is secured with 2 bamboo Mekugi. The Ito tightly rapped and is made of leather. I like the leather alot. I have no idea what the Menuki are supposed to be...
The Tsuba- Is a replica of the Ruroni Kenshin sword. It is simple yet functional and I love the look of it. it is very, very secure
The Saya- Hard wood with a high gloss finish. The Sageo is in a pretty cool rap
The Handling- The sword feels a bit heavy when swinging. When you flip it to cut with the blade is a little awkward but of course its reversed, the blade on a reverse blade isn't supposed to be used anyway but you can't just not cut with it. Even though it feels a bit awkward it still cuts fairly well. I maneged to cut some Poland spring water bottles and Gatorade bottles with little trouble. The double rolled beach mat was a little tricky but was still cut in half as shown in the video
Historical Accuracy: 0/5
Fit and Finish: 4/5- Could be sharper
Handling: 3/5
Structural Integrity: 5/5 -very sturdy
Value for Money- 4/5
OVERALL: 4/5
A good buy? Yes in my opinion
