Eques, I have a Qing jian with small guard and wide viking sword like blade. Due to thinness, it's a little more flexible, but still stiff enough to cut/thrust through something with. Very hard edges, sanmai construction. Blade about 30.5" long, total length about 39" long. Weighs around 2 lb, maybe a bit over, very well balanced. Also from consulting with Scott Rodell and Phillip Tom, they still made combat worthy fighters, but also soft, whippy blades for Scholars who want just the image to hang on their study wall (Ha!!! early Wallhanger!!! ) I kept my soft edge one as it's big, has rayskin handle and classic large late Qing Ace of Spades guard. However I treasure the wide viking blade one as I know that blade was made for true fighting. For me, that's like the difference between collecting a real firearm vs. an airsoft version. They make 'look' alike but are very different animals.

Whoa! Slow down and take a breather. There are no threats when he says he might have to post your email correspondence in order to defend his name -- since, of course, you sent them and wrote them with the highest standards of civility.
Asking for a custom sub $300 dollars sword from any smith would likely just earn you a plain NO. There are very few who could even do so without taking a heavy loss. You should not expect to see a "may refuse service at our discretion" sign on Garrett's site since he is not the manager of a fast food chain. No, he does not have to serve you.
I did not see any instance of unprofessionalism from his end unless you are kind enough to post some additional evidence - perhaps some screenshots of his emails to yours truly.
^^ this is slander though. Slander is legally defined as spoken... but then again, internet laws are very tricky.

I find this hilarious. Imagine if I come to Howard Clark or Rick Barrett and ask them to make me a sword I saw in an anime. Or that I ask Keith Larman to mount me an katana with the "Hello Kitty" theme. They would be very insulted and rightly so. It is common knowledge that custom sword makers choose the sword they want to make. They simply will not make swords they are not proud off.

hey Ghost. Slander is verbal. LIbel is written and carries a heavier weight in most courts.

Perhaps someone should read the forum rules. The hostility you are emanating could result in a thread lock, or worse even being suspended from the forum, should Paul or a moderator witness such actions and feel it necessary to do so.
Sure you were not happy with the answer you received from Garrett, and I could see you disappointed. But a customized sword bears the reputation of the maker. should what you order not stand up to the reputation held, then any one would refuse the same. As for my personal opinion as to what it seems you want, you should have saved money by getting a standardized practice jian from martial arts mart or something.
you accused Garrett of sullying his name... what i see here is you sullying your own name by hot-headed attempts at slander and libel of a man's business, and that being ungrounded. it wasn't as if you had been ripped off by someone you you ordered from and never got a product. then no one would feel bad for the guy you were talking about.
PLEASE DO NOT BRING SUCH ATTITUDE PROBLEMS AND HOSTILITY TO THE NEW FORUM.
