Chris has a great reputation with his swords. High quality stuff, great designs, tough as nails. He's a member of our forum here too, just PM Scorpion Swords if you have any questions about his stuff. He's even got a few items on sale right now in the manufacturers & vendors section viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1457 though sadly the Ares isn't among the sale goodies.

Cris does very good work for the price... but you still get what you pay for, so expect no distal taper, not so refined handling and like you already said, a rather high weight. If I were to buy a sword from him, I'd have a custom made, that costs the same as his other swords and you can really get what you want. Something to consider.

I have the Egyptian Khopesh, well I did. That is a long story that is still playing out
His customer service is second to none. He is very, very passionate about his work.

Very nice guy to talk to/email. He responds quickly and is very open to modifications. I ordered back on New Years day...at like 9 at night which must have been 12 where he is at...and he responded in like an hour.
Anyways I haven't gotten my black asp yet but the waiting time should be around 2-3 weeks if you don't order through KoA but directly from him. Sorry I can't give you any insight yet on its handling.
I would definitely ask him to make the grips less blockish if I were you...(I did) since they look like they may bite into your hands a bit.

To give a few details. The sword was damaged it transit. The tip was "rolled" for lack of a better word. I took it to the Post Office (per Chris they should let me keep it) and THEY kept it. I went back and it seems that they do not know about making claims. The Postmaster has to call the Inspector General to see if I can keep the sword. Chris is not happy about the PO. He and I are working on this and the PO said not to make a claim until they know what to do with the merchandise. Chris wants to call the Post Office, he is very irritated.
I do think that the handle is a little blocky but the steel and the craftsmanship are just great.

Thanks Ghost
I hope so too. Chris and I are worried that an employee will just take it home. I want assurance that if I do not get it, that I know exactly how they are to dispose of it. I do belive that Chris will be calling the Post office when I am back there for the 3rd time.

USPS is a nightmare...They've "lost" so many things in transit. Any good news yet Vince?
They also rolled the tip on my Evil's Bane when it came a couple months ago...and the seller only lived an hour away from me?!?!?
Luckily it wasn't sharpened so I went ahead and filed /sanded it out when I sharpened the blade.

ditto, I would like to know as well. There is another "scorpion" company out there that makes knives...
I don't think Chris Palmer's stuff are even close to the weak end.

I know that other ''Scorpion'' knife company. They are based in the UK and seem to offer mid-to-high-end knives. I don't think they would be the kind of company that sells wallhangers. Same thing for Chris, I don't think he is the kind of guy that would sell a wallhanger to someone.

lol. I think I misread Ancient's post. There are definitely fantasy SLOs out there with a big fat "scorpion" on the guard. gah, an insect on a sword...
/facepalm

Yea Ares Xiphos = (Ξιφος in greek means sword) is very tempting with some customized symbols engravings would be great , dont know about his weight seems to be one of the heavier of there line ,if any owner can express his impressions in swinging it and cutting with it would be much appreciate.

I bought the Achilles sword that is the actual one in the picture on Chris's site.I suggested the curly maple handle on mine and I think it looks great.I dont think it's overly heavy and it handles great. So far all I have cut with it is a few soda bottles and he sharpened the hell out of it and no problem going through them.I wish I could take video's traditionalarcherybows.com/handm ... y_p53.html I had some extra cash (the last time seems like) and wanted to get something else from Chris,BTW he is a great guy to talk to and work with over the phone or email pictures for me to OK on my custom Devastator Death dealer influnced Axe.I was thrilled to death when it got here and I took it out of the box.It looks a bit different and is made different than the other one for sale thats $2000.00 in the only other website I've seen it in.I've cut two milk bottles with it by hanging them by their handles on a string from a branch around 3 inches from a large tree.I figured the tree would at least stop my forward motion. The first gallon milk bottle cut through but I only got around 1/2 of it in my cut.The second one cut right through the jug and stuck in the tree. It's a well made solid, heavy axe that you'll never get into the renfest with but it looks great and i never see anyone selling them. The down side is it is extremly unbalanced.Having/swing a blade that sharp scared the hell out of me,I'm glad the tree stopped my forward momentum. But Chris did a great job matching up the shape of the blade with Frezetta's deathdealer and it's cool to have. traditionalarcherybows.com/handm ... e_p66.html If I ever have any more money to spend on swords Conan's mothers sword will be next if he will lengthen the blade about 6 inches.

If I remember my conversation with Chris correctly about the Aries xiphos sword when it first came out.The Aries sword shows up so heavy because it was bought by a college history professor in Germany and he did not want it sharpened,I guess so he could pass it around to his students without anyone getting cut.I dont know how much weight you would lose by taking off steel sharpening it on both sides but its got to lose quite a few ounces.I really like that sword also and that professor guy buys a lot of steel from Chris.
