Looking for some reviews/opinions of the Cold Steel Viking Sword.
So far I've only been able to find the one review that is on this forum. If anyone knows of any other recent reviews or has bought one recently and would care to chime in on this sword I would greatly appreciate it.

Would you mind quickly explaining what exactly about the sword makes you feel that way?
From the pictures it appears to be a beautiful sword and sharp right out of the box. The welded on threaded portion of the tang does concern me a bit but then again if done right I don't see a problem with it..that's a big if though.
The blade appears nice and thick, which I like and I intend to use it to cut regularly if I purchase it so if there is anything you know that I have missed I would greatly appreciate the insight.
Thanks, Damo
Also there doesn't appear to be a lot of good Viking swords priced much cheaper than the CS. There's the HT 9th century but wow the blade looks awful thin to me.

Well it is a hand and a half, not a true one handed sword, sharp, yes, very thick, I would get the Gen2 9thc Viking or the KC Viking first next time, there blade are thick enough but not to thick, look at rick willys revue on the old site of the KC viking. I was disappointed by the way the pommel was attached, I will not get one again, the hilt and pommel are based off originals, but the two were not on the same sword, just my opinion of course......SanMarc.
(And the scabbard sucks, Soft wood!)

I've never held the CS viking, but i think that there's at least one review on the old site. But as San Marc said, the KC is really good, Ric's review is spot on, i can testify !

I hadn't previously given KC serious consideration but that sword does look interesting. The uneven thread is cool and totally fitting though going in a completely different direction than the CS version.
I know the CS is a hodgepodge viking sword and I don't generally like the contemporary look but for some reason on that sword it appeals to me. Almost like a tactical viking sword (two things that should probably never be combined lol).
The more I think about it the more I just can't get past the welded on portion of the tang though..shame.
Anyway thanks for the insight, you've given me another option to consider.
So many swords to choose from...but I guess that's half the fun.

Topic moved to a more apprpriate board, as this isn't a review but a discussion.
I'd recommend the KC, or maybe a Darksword armory if you want a very tough blade. Also, windlass has some good Viking blades, not as whippy as some of their other stuff, and pretty tough. The C.S. isnt really a good value for money much anymore, too many other good swords out there.

I totally agree with Avery. I own the KC viking and the 10th century Darksword armory viking and love them both.

Hehehe, I thought I did move it to the "Midieval" board. Oh well. To the OP, let us know what you go with. If you do take the plunge for a C.S. a new review would give great insight about how this model has improved, if any.

Going with the Windlass Damascus viking sword because it's beautiful and more historically accurate and I'd kick myself if they discontinued it before i got a chance to buy one later. Unsharpened so I can put it on the wall without having to worry about anyone accidentally lopping off their leg. Still a real sword and can always sharpen it later. Besides kind of worried that they would put a secondary bevel on it if I let them sharpen it and that wouldn't look right on this sword. It's so beautiful I'll probably just put it on my office wall and stare at it when I daydream (which is alot hehe) and worry about a cutting viking sword another time just need to come up with a good name for it now...as all viking swords should be named! (even unsharpened ones) Thanks for the insight, saved me from ending up with the wrong sword no doubt
