Yeah, AFAIK floppiness is a wushu thing...the original was carried by officers and gentry so I would expect it to hold up like a rapier or sidesword. I snagged a Hanwei/Rodell cutting jian on the classifieds, which my understanding is a pretty stout blade. We'll know in a few days...
And that is indeed an excellent looking saber--not a "sport grip" but I maintain that those are impractical for a real sword anyway. I've been wanting a good straight or slightly curved infantry saber, might have to look into that one.

I've always wanted to try the "Italien" grip in foil.

-I'd grab the other end of the chair with my off hand and stab you.
-The tip of any sword can travel forward or backward about 8 feet in the span of one step. If you did get right in my face tho, I'd just pummel you with the hilt.
-About as far as you could with a shorter weapon.
-I'm not sure how that is arguing against rapiers, or weapons of that nature.
It has been my long held belief that it is not the weapon, but the wielder that will determine the outcome to almost any fight. I have to throw the "almost" in there because someone will always give an example to contradict me.
Then the situation always comes up where we are in a hall way. One guy has a guisarme, the other had a dagger. Then we'd could debate back and forth, blah blah blah. But my argument still stands. Anyone practiced enough with a guisarme will know not to bring the damned thing into a hallway for battle.
Getting back to the original post tho.
I did notice the other day that a lot of single bladed wood splitting axes had a curved handle. Again, I'm not sure if this is just a modern thing or if this was how they were made back in the day.
