Hi guys.
Every now and then another thread about weapons for self defense pops up. The latest one prompted me to post this suggestion.
Survival and Self defense are long term strategies, including dealing with your actions later on.
This weekend i took a first aid seminar with the local Red Cross Organisation. And it was money and time well spend. It does not turn me into a medic or similar but in my opinion it is handy to have some more knowledge over what to do in a bad situation.
I can recommend such activity. The costs were acceptable, about 30 USD for the weekend. Its so,ething you can do with family and friends, to the best of my knowledge there are even courses for children.
Just wanted to give you guys something to think about.
take my 2 cp for what they are worth
yours sincerely

Spent 27 years in mountaineering - led expeditions - trained other guides - made judgement calls on summit teams - performed rescues - etc.
At base camp and on the mountain - my most called-upon skill? First Aid

I live in an apartment in the middle of a city. My wife and I are constantly bandaging people up. First aid is skill that is so far beyond useful there are very few words to describe it. Anyone who has a chance to take a first aid class should.

I've been kinda spoiled. I grew up with a nurse for a mother, so I had learned all of my medical knowledge by proxy. Technically I'm not certified to give CPR, but I still know how. Come to think of it tho, I might wanna make it "formal" anyway, in case I find myself in a situation to use it, break someone's rib and then get a lawsuit for saving their life.
But I totally agree with the OP. To put it in sword terms, knowing first aid is like knowing how to care for your sword. One should always know how to take care of a highly valued item.

My office schedules First Aid/CPR training fairly regularly. This is partly because of legal requirements for our in-house fitness center but mostly because they think it's a good skill for the workforce to have. Even in the 8 years I've been working there, CPR procedures have changed slightly. If you picked CPR up from your mom as a kid and haven't kept up with it, then simple stuff like breath to compression ratios have almost certainly changed.
It's also really easy to put together a basic first aid kit that can treat a wide variety of minor injuries. Basic bandaids, a roll of medical tape, some sterile gauze, alcohol wipes, and pain killers can do a lot.

as a medic i have to totally agree that first aid is as much self defense as winning the fight. if you or someone else is hurt in the fight, then you will know what to do to patch yourself or others up to trudge on in the survival of the aftermath.
