i wanted to name my katana even though not everyone name their swords. the reason i want to name it is because it is my first katana ever and i wanted to symbolise it. since my zodiac sign is the leo (lion) i thought some months ago to have my sword customised with this theme so i bought the necessary things to have it done. i thought of using the name Raion No Kuchi for my sword (if i'm right it would be translated as ''Lion's Bite'')... any ideas for a sword name by the way i use two sites for translating the words one to change english to japanese (but the kanji don't show up for me) and the second one for traslating the square like pattern that appears on my screen to romaji translate.eu/nihongo.j-talk.com/kanji/if you have some ideas of a name for a sword put it here please (should serve for anyone who wants to name their katana ) but i warn you if you take the Raion No kuchi idea it'll cost you

Lion's bite is a good one, of course the others of that concept like lion's tooth, lion's claw seem fairly obvious. according to the translation sites you provided Lion's tooth = ライオンの歯 or raion no ha
lion's claw = ライオンの爪 or raion no tsume

Eh, I'd avoid using Engrish if you could, but I'm not sure the "translation" afforded by www.saiga-jp.com/kanji_dictionary.html of "shishi" is exactly the same beast, either. Then again, they also offer "shisihgi" for "The Lion/Leo" so maybe a candidate? Kuchi generally just means mouth, in my understanding, and also can refer to openings in, well, just about anything. For instance, the word for "the exit" is "deguchi," which pretty literally means "the opening going out" or some such, and let's not forget another katana part, well, saya part, the koiguchi... For "bite" well, that's tough; from saiga ( www.saiga-jp.com/cgi-bin/dic.cgi ... 6893_39453 ) I think #7 is close, but not close enough for me. Words for "tooth" etc. are odd, but I'm wondering about "fang," which seems to be "kiba" or "shikon," but again...that's just what a few online sources are telling me. At any rate, "Raion no Kuchi" doesn't strike me, personally, as a good name for a sword. It'd be like calling it "lions mouf" to me. ineff beat me to the fang etc. bit, but I just can't sit with "raion" for some reason. :x

Another option is you could use the Japenese name for the costilation ShiShi (she-she) in some sort of name Again according to you translation sites Star of Leo = レオの星 or reo no hoshi or something with Leo minor which is called Kojishi (koh-jee-she) Sword of Leo minor = こじし座の剣 or Koji shi za no ken Leo minor is a smaller faint constellation just above Leo the ancients considered it part of the Leo constellation

I was thinking that, whenever I saved up enough to buy a custom job, I'd have it done with green ito and sageo, black saya and rayskin, and bird-of-prey themed fittings, then give it the name Midori no Taka, which (rather uncreatively) means, as far as I can tell, "The Green Hawk."

Personally I would, if naming my sword, go with something more in line with my cultural background and as I am not Japanese would stick with my European background, even upon a Japanese sword.
However the OP had asked for names and seemed to want to go with Japanese translations for a name. I do not judge this as right or wrong but the posters desire and to be answered as well as can be done by those of us at SBG. I do not think he intended any insult to your pride in this.
Just speculating but I would guess the OP was thinking Japanse names due to the sword being a Japanese styled katana, and was looking at lion due to his astrology sign being leo. To me that does seem to fit the concept of attributes of the sword and weilder you suggested.

ineffableone is right about my thoughts, since it is a japanese style sword i thought of using a japanese name in accordance with my astrological sign. i didn't mean to offend anyone by doing this or even trying to find a nice name for the sword.

Ahh, yes I had not read that thread or the one that thread references so did not understand that the post here was a joke. It seems the OP hadn't either. Thank you for clearing that up.

I'd pegged it as a troll post and got a laugh but didn't know about the original background. Less funny now.

You've been kinda grumpy (not offensive, or anything, just a "vibe") lately. I want the Random with the rapier wit back...(seriously meant to imply concern, not to annoy or offend in ANY way!) ~wp

I really like the idea of "Lion's roar", but Ineff's idea of raion no tsume/"Lion's claw" is also very cool, then comes the OP's original idea. That's my top three votes. Hey, once you get a few good ones, you should do a poll and we can all vote. Doesn't mean you have to go with the winner, but might help you decide...just thinkin'...

I've been trying to decide what to name my sword, here is what I've come up with so far:
Wrath of the Meteor 流星の怒り Ryuusei no ikari
Eternal Wrath 永遠の怒り Eien no ikari
Death Claw 死の爪 Shino tsume
Instant Death 即死 Sokushi
Tiger Fang 虎牙 Tora kiba
Snake Venom ヘビ毒 Hebi doku
Shadow Pirate 影海賊 Kage kaizoku
Shadow of Death 死の影 Shino Kage
Shadow Ninja 忍者の影 Ninja no kage
Unstoppable Force 止められない力 Yameri renai chikara
Sword of a thousand suns 千の太陽の剣 Sen no taiyou no tsurugi
