So here's my review for the Oni Forge Bujin Kage Ko-katana!
It's the one in the foreground.
As you can see compared to my shura in the back, with it's 30" saya, it's quite a long sword, ....or is it?
Huzzah!
As you can see, the Bujin Kage has a 21.5" blade, and a whopping 14" tsuka! According to the Oni forge site, It was designed to give the wielder an advantage in drawing the sword quicker then an opponent. It's basically the same design as the Cheness Oniyuri, albeit with 1060 carbon steel instead of the 9260.
Fittings
The Ito is a nice brown cotton over (real) black same. It's quite tight, and doesn't shift at all. The seppa are a little loose, but I can live with it. The Tsuba is an attractive square Kunihiro Sukashi style, in plain, black, iron.
(Never mind the camera strap)
The nakago is pinned by two mekugi, and the menuki are metal, though I don't know what they are.
The saya is quite even, and fits well. All in all, the fittings are well done, and quite attractive, in a subdued way.
Handling
This sword handles like a dream. It's very light, and the 14" tsuka give you excellent directional control and leverage. The balance point lies a mere 2.5" from the tsuba, making it super fast!
The Blade
The blade is quite attractive, with a good polish and a straight, acid etched harmon, which is still nice. It features a wicked kissaki that just begs to be impaled in something.
(Not a great pic, but it captures a stain that I noticed.)
There are two light stains on the blade, one on the kissaki, one on the blade itself, but I could care less.
The blade is quite sharp! It performed the paper test admirably, but I haven't had a chance to cut anything substantial yet. I will soon though, and will post videos!
Fit and Finish: 4/5- Everything tight, but light stains on blade.
Handling: 5/5- Whaddya expect? The balance point is 2.5 " away from the tsuba!
Structural Integrity 4/5- Everything is well put together, but I wouldn't risk the blade against hard targets like the shura.
Value For Money 4/5- This sword is easily worth the $200 price tag.
Overall 4/5- Maybe it's not your style, but this is a fun sword to use! I love it!!
Cheers!
