Hello all, Anyone collecting 1902 Officers' sabres? There is one in "High Calibre Gun and Pawn" store in Prattville, Alabama . the scabbard is somewhat rusty, the handlle is in good shape, and the blade is in mint condition. Beautiful sword. The owner, Danny, said he would take $170.00 for it. If I was in the market for those, I would jump on it. Just thought I would share this with y'all in case someone might be interested. Later, Freebooter

I'd grab it - even if you don't like it, you might be able to ebay it later on for a mark up.

I have no money right now, am fixing to take a disability retirement, etc.. Just thought someone might want to call information and call that store and buy it by credit card, debit, or something. Danny and them are great, reliable, decent guys. FB

It is a United States Army 1902 Officers' sabre, or officers cavalry sabre. It has fancy engraving all over the blade. This payday, when I can get some gas money (I m broke and very low on gas right now), I will go back over there and write any pertinant info down about it, the maker, etc.. FB

I don't own a camera, but if I did I would take pics of it and post them. It is pretty nice, except for the scabbard, which is a lot of it rusty. FB

I went back and looked at that 1902 I spoke of in that gun shop. It has no makers' name or anything that I could see. The excellent blade is engraved and has "U.S" in the middle of the engraving on one side and on the other is a blank spot where someone's name might go. The only marking on the blade near the guard is what appears to be like the Star of David or Israeli star. Between the middle of each point is a sort of hand, flower, or flame design. Also is something that appears to say "Pro*****". I did not have my glasses and could not see it good. P

M1902 sabres are the main focus of my antique collecting. There are SO many variants from 108 years of production that being sight un-seen, it's hard to determine the est. worth of this particular sword.
It also depends on what area the collector is looking for. Some collect only certain makers, some the most makers they can, others particular time periods (like me 1902-1925, but mainLy pre WWI & WWI era)and some only presentation models.
cheers,
Bill

Like I said, this one's blade is pristeen, the handle is in pretty good shape, although the scabbard is rusty in most places. He said he would sell it to me for $150.00 When I get the money I might go buy it just to have it. FB

It sounds like a generic imported M1902, and if you look on Ebay you could probably get a much better example for the same price or just a little more.
