First of all I want to tell you that my sword knowledge is pretty limited, because this is my second sword and my first European sword, so I can’t really tell you much about the handling and the historical accuracy.
I choose a Baselard because I really like short swords, the price / achievement seemed very well and last but not least because I’m Swiss.
Measurements and Price:
Manufacturer: Windlass
Length: 29 1/4" / 76.5cm
Blade: 23 3/4" / 60.5cm
Blade width: 1 5/8" / 4cm
Weight (sword): 1 lb 12.0 oz / 0.75kg
Weight (full set w/scabbard): 2 lb 6.1 oz / 1.1kg
The measurements in Centimeter and Kilogram I've made myself and the others are Manufacturer Spec.
Price: 140 USD at Kult of Athena
First impression:
The first impression was really good, I really liked this sword from the first moment I've seen it, especially the hardwood grip is really eye-catching as you can see on the pictures.
Blade and Hilt:
The blade is nice polished and looks overall very good.
As I’ve already said I really like the grip, it looks very nice and lies perfect in the hand.
Over all the hilt makes a really solid impression!
Historical Accuracy:
It’s difficult to tell something about the historical accuracy because I don’t have any sword books. But on what I found in the few sources, the historical accuracy is not bad at all and this picture off a late baselard I found in the myarmoury forum looks pretty similar to Windlass Baselard.

But it was really hard and I just found about 3 pictures of a late(longer) Baselard version.
Knife and Skewer
Scabbard entrance:
The sword fits good, but the scabbard could be a bit bigger.
Handling and Cutting:
In my opinion the handling is good but nothing special and I think the balance point should be closer to the cross guard.
Although the baselard isn’t sharpened(as I already wrote) I did a little cutting and it cuts quite good.
a bit tougher cutting:
After the "cutting" it had a few tiny marks but I think with a little polish they should vanish without a problem
Totals:
Historical Accuracy: 3/5
Fit and Finish: 3.5/5
Handling: 4/5
Structural Integrity: 4/5
Value for Money: 5/5
OVERALL: 4/5
Over all I'm really happy with my new sword!
PS:
Although Kult of Athena told me that the shipping will take about 2-3 week,
it already arrived seven days after I’ve ordered it.
