Ok guys, I've been interested in classical Greek armor and weaponry lately, and I've been thinking about putting together some gear, maybe something you'd see during the Pellopponesian War. Now, it looks like Deepeeka has the widest selection of hoplite goodies, but given their rep, I wouldn't touch em with a 10-foot infantry spear. After looking around on teh interwebz a little, I found these guys: www.hellenic-art.com/armour/ I love how their stuff looks, but I've never heard of em, has anyone ever seen their stuff in person? Also, their swords kinda make me raise my eyebrows. What exactly do they mean by "stainless carbon steel" anyhow?

The "stainless carbon steel" is stainless steel. They are misrepresenting /skewing the products as you have suspected. These weapons are not "battle-ready" and are SLOs. Sure, I guess they can claim that stainless steel has a very small amount of carbon in it...
I would also be skeptical of their greco/roman helms and shields. They do look really nice but come with a hefty price tag and also likely lack historical correctness. There is definitely some "300" stuff mixed in there.
Odingaard has some armor links if I can find them and I did see quite a lot of high quality goodies...prob on va forums. -will get back to you

Pete, judging by the discriptions of the "swords" I'd say they're full of crap or just have no clue what they're talking about. I'd say the former.

Yechh. That's what I was thinking, I just wasn't sure. Chukissaki, yeah, Kult definitely has plenty of Greek gear, that's probably the place to look. Although, the majority is from Deepeeka, and generally speaking, Deepeeka = bad juju. Anyone ever use their armor?

The difference between Straight Carbon Steel and Stainless Steel is the Chromium and the various alloying elements added to it. Stainless has them, Straight Carbon Steel doesn't, or it's in very small quantity. For example, take 1095 Tool Steel, add 14% Chromium, tweak the Manganese up by .55%, add .75% Molybdenum, and you have 440C. See the difference?

That site has JUNK! The swords/armor are crap, as are the other items, they are clearly attempting to cash in on 300 and Alexander. The prices are *laughable* too. Save your money and head for KOA.
