I received the Brian Boru-my first real sword-in the mail today! Unfortunately, it was raining outside today, but give me a couple of days and I can get some pics and an in-depth review.
First impressions-
One word comes to mind when looking at this sword...and that word is "Monster." When the tip is touching the ground, the pommel goes all the way to my chin! It's enormous...absolutely enormous.
The hilt wrap is comfortable in he hand, though I had to relearn the grip in order to avoid wrist injury. (Did I mention this sword is big? ) I didn't want to take it outside in the rain, so I wasn't able to truly swing this sucker around.
What I can only think of as "fullers" that adorn the ricasso of the blade are intricate and impressive. The tip of the blade is extraordinarily rounded-from what I understand, the shape adds more surface area to the blade, resulting in a brutal cut-with the sheer mass of this thing, I get the impression that I could drop an ox with it!
Pretty pommel. More on that later.
The sword comes with goodies! There's a backhanger that came with it, but I don't know how to put it together. I'm feeling pretty dumb on that one. There's also supposed to be a collector's edition print of Brian Boru, but I received an e-mail from Arms of Valor informing me that when they get more prints, they'll ship it to me. I plan on doing a review of Arms of Valor-as well as a set of bracers that I bought from them-later.
Thank you for reading. Give me a few days and I'll have more to say. (And pictures!)
Peace out!
