Hey all, awhile back Zinjie asked me to let everyone know what I thought about this sword if I bought it. Well it arrived on Tuesday, and this is what I found, all of the fittings you see loose were at the bottom of the sword bag! They are only held in place by the lacquer that they spray on. It was also supposed to come with a sword stand and maintenance kit, those weren't shipped! The saya has a small split where they forced the re-enforcing band (kurikata?) onto the saya, but its fixable. The saya is pretty slim so it it is kinda fragile.
Now on the positive side, this sword is pretty much what Topicool claims it is. The only thing I'm not sure I buy is that this blade is differentially hardened and that implies a natural Hamon. It looks etched, but if it is, it's a pretty good replica.
My photography sucks, but this is one of the nicest polishes on any blade I have. The downside being the random little scratches from it being mishandled The Ito wrap is one of the most uniform and even I've seen, but it's a little on the loose side. The fittings are brass and they are surprisingly well made, but kind of half assed finished. That's the story of this sword, they do a pretty good job in some areas, then just half step their way through the rest of the process, kinda disappointing! The weird thing about this sword is the price. Originally it was less than $300.00 on Topicool.com, then $338.00 and $308.00 if you bid on ebay. If you go to the wuu-jau.com website, they want over $800.00 for this sword! In my opinion, this sword is not worth $308.00, but It's about the only game in town for a Tachi thats under $1000.00
If you want to check out the specs on this sword go to topicool.com ,search keyword tachi.
Okay I'm ranting and its late and I'm sure I forgot to mention all kinds of stuff! Signing off for now, Thanks !
