So it seems I read somewhere that you can use wood glue to toughen up your ito. Can someone give a rundown of the process? Thanks

You can water it down until thin and brush it over the ito with a fine brush. Let it dry between coats, it should be nice and tough.
I've also used spray can lacquer on cotton ito, and then rubbed the excess surface lacquer off with acetone, with good results. Thinned brush-on lacquer would be better though.
