Hey y'all,
I received my replacement sabre from Cold Steel. They sent me several of their dvds for fighting with various weapons too, free fo charge.
The new sabre is so neat and well balanced, almost more so than the first one that I sent back. I am not going to post another review because it is identicle to the other one. But did do a cutting test of sorts last night. But I think I botched it:
First of all, I wanted to do a serious cutting test while alone and without hendrence and distractions. But a couple of buddies came over and they, my wife and two kids stood there haranging me to go ahead, hurry up and cut it, etc.. One was laughing, cutting jokes about Hoss Cartright playing with a sword. So I feel that my concentration was not up to its best.
I will try another cutting test alone and without distractions soon. But here is how it did considering: I had one of those four or five inch cutting matt rolls standing up in one of those stands made for the purpose. The first try it was not anchored down or anything. I swung the sabre from right to left, slightly diagonally downward. It cut about halfway through it and knocked my roll and stand over. I tried to lay some firewood pieces on the "flanges" of the stand to hold it down, but it did it again. I can't find the four long nail things that came with it to put thorugh the four corner holes and anchor it to the ground. I wonder how it would have done had I been able to anchor it properly with thos long nails.
I tried it again with the pieces of firewood on the flat of the stand but with the same results. So thinking that the matt was tougher than the first one that I cut up with my katana the other day, I got the katana out and it cut through it like butter two or three times.
So, I blame myself for not being able to cut through the matt. I either have to sharpen my sabre blade even more (it feels very sharp to me!) or practice on my swings or cuts or whatever you want to call them. Maybe I just did not swing it fast enough. And like I said, I will try it again when I can concentrate without buddies ribbing me while I am trying to do so.
Take care,
