Hey guys, I realize this is *technically* off-topic, but I was wondering if any of you fine gents had any tips or observations when it comes to repairing scabbards, sheaths and sayas? I have two right now that could use a little mending. The first is the sheath for my Gen 2 Black Prince. It seems one of the straps has come undone. It appears to have been held together by some kind of adhesive, but I'm only guessing. The other is for my Cold Steel Grosse Messer. This is my "fun sword", which is to say it's the one I mistreat badly with test-cutting and such. It can take a pounding, and oh boy have I ever given it one. I seem to have over-sharpened the poor thing and cut open the scabbard by drawing it like a katana (BIG mistake). Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have! Cheers, B

The Messer scabbard will not look perfect unless you either make a completely new scabbard or recover the leather.
If you just want if to work with no frills, get a fiberglass repair kit. Make a thin fiberlass patch over the tear in the core. Then take the leather covering and glue the cut edges together. After the seam sets, take a piece of garment leather slightly larger than tear, cut it to completely go around the scabbard with a 1/2" overlap. Before putting the band around the scabbard, decorate it with anything from a belt mount to handpainting or embroidery, glue and sew into place over the tear. It will not only be stronger than it was originally but anyone who sees it will just assume you customizied the scabbard.
