I want to change my username to "Independant Unattached Glowing Floaty Bits", but is that Tinkers intellectual property?
also, I think a friend of mine got that once after a trip to vegas- took lots of penicilin to clear it up

"Codpiece dagger" - that sounds like something I've heard in an adult film or a very serious accident waiting to happen. Greg, nope never does. My wife just recently dodged having to be in a photo shoot with her Belly Dance instructor - so there are reasons costuming and props have to be maintained in top condition, and shiny enough to be seen easily from 30 feet away.

I'm tempted to make a reference to Ballock Daggers but... no.

Good first podcast, I cracked up so many times. 'Battle ready', 'independent unattached glowy floaty bits', 'final fantasy 417'. cant wait for the next one.

Nice work, Tinker. I personally got a chuckle when you did the accent to describe when people asked about "battle ready" swords.

Can you make buttock daggers?
It would be the best defense because I doubt I'd get searched there if I ever get captured. The only stipulation is that it would have to be custom made to my buttocks. So, I'll be by for measurements this weekend.

Greg, in addition to being wrong on so many levels, what about if you gain/lose weight? It wouldn't fit anymore.

I am SO going out of town this weekend... The 2nd episode of The Sword Geek is live! This weeks edition comes with a question from a listener and perhaps more than you really want to know about how swords are put together. We also discuss ‘Blood Grooves,’ The Mongoliad, Journey Quest and a few thoughts on the best ‘bad-but-good’ sword movie ever made. Hope you enjoy the show!

Cool- first Sword Geek question is mine! I should mention he advised me by email that he mixed up where I heard about the podcast show from- in fact it was right here on SBG. How awesome is it to have access to Tinkers weath of info?!
edit/add: and as I listen to the cast I realize it would have been smarter of me if I had actually phrased my question correctly...duh  ... What I meant to say was "is it safe to peen a threaded tang... but of course I wrote 'pommel' instead of 'tang' (those who know me wold tell you this is just the sort of thing I'd do- mix up one key word :? )- and of course Tinker answered my question as I asked it. Very good and thorough answer too- I like getting background on the process of building and prefer when an answer has more detail rather than not enough. I suppose I'll email him to explain myself.

Now that I understand what you are asking- it will probably be OK to peen the threads... but heat them to a blue-gray color fist them allow them to cool and heat to bright red when peening. An oxy-propane or oxy-acetalent torch may be needed to heat the threads fast enough to prevent the heat from spreading fast enough to damage the handle.

Good stuff. And sorry for goofing my question...still, your answer was valuable indeed and the podcast is entertaining.
Has anyone else asked any other questions so far. I'm surprised there isn't a flood of questions already...

I asked some questions for next week's podcast. I'm not spilling the beans though.
