Just got mine yesterday as an early xmas present. Solidly built and something fun to own. I know the tactical thing is kind of a gimmick but the sword feels and looks good. I felt it was $100 happily spent.

Hi I own the Hanwei tactical wak, katana and tanto. I bought them for backyard cutting and they are absolutly perfect for me for that purpose. but i have just returned from a 11 day camping/hunting trip that i took my wak and tanto on at the request of my hunting mates. evening entertainment is usually knife tomahawk throwing and the guys wanted to add some bottle cutting to that. BUT it rained on 7 of the 11 days and by day 3 the Tak wak was having serious rust issues. I kept oiling and drying it but with the humidity condensation was forming inside the fibreglass saya causing rust. I tried using WD40 and gun oil to halt it but the rust just kept forming. :? the tang of the tanto also had rust issues but these cleaned up easy and didnt stain. I think the plasma coating on the tak wak was faulty as the tanto just didnt have the same rust dispite also being constantly wet from the condensation. Not impressed as my beautiful set now has one very stained and slightly pitted wak in the middle i do not feel i had removed/damaged the plasma coat by repeated cutting as usually use the katana and had only recieved the wak a few weeks ago. Big thumbs down to the plasma coatings rust prevention ability. Other than that still love the swords just wont be taking them outdoors when raining ever again.

yep sorry about quality they are off cellphone. Ive cleaned the wak up as best as i could last night but the staining and pitting is still obvious. I hope to carefully polish the wak back up when i figuire out a safe way to do it funny thing is the Tanto didnt have the same problem :?:

Sounds like the coating was faulty on your Tactical Wakizashi. I've seen rust test videos (sorry, cant find the links right now) of standard blades vs Hanwei tactical and no rust appeared on the blades whatsoever compared to rusting on standard uncoated Japanese style blades. You can probably put in a warranty claim...

Morpheus did a review with a side by side rust test with the tac wak and another sword
minute 6:40 or so is where the test starts

Thanks Chris, that's the one I was referring to. The results are pretty clear.

Thanks that video was the one that convinced me i needed the tak wak in the first place. so much better than the usual monotone video reviews. I will chase up my importer once he comes back from his holidays and see what the warranty situation is.
