Hyojinsama has one thing right: many knights did NOT wear plate armor at all, while many samurai did. it is all a matter of time period and place.
I'm not even going to discuss Chuck Norris (in interests of my own personal safety)

Do we now? As Tom said, it's all a matter of time and place. If we picked the year 1500 or so, we would be left with exactly what is thought of when people think 'knight' and 'samurai', respectively. In 1500, the samurai were in the middle of the Sengoku Jidai, or Warring States period, where the samurai was more or less at the height of his time as a soldier. Conversely, it was also the peek of plate armor usage for the knight. As a result, we have two cultures whose weapons excel at defeating their enemies, who are similarly armed and armored. The knight would be wearing a combination of mail and light plate, carrying a shield, and most likely wielding an Oakeshott Type XVIII (or one of its subtypes), which are characterized by a slender point meant to penetrate their enemy's plate, while also being able to cut, as plate was slowly dying off at this point in time because of projectile weapons. Given that the samurai armor is mostly rounded, a cut (or a thrust, when dealing with the breastplate) would deflect off of it, however, the effectiveness of a knight's shield and sword techniques would more than make up for this. The samurai would be wearing full plate, carrying a katana, a wakizashi/tanto, a yumi, and possibly a naginata or yari. The katana and naginata are fine slashing weapons, but are a little lacking in the thrust, which was the main way to defeat plate armor (by thrusting into the gaps or bludgeoning it open). The yari makes up for this to a point (no pun intended), but it has a rather broad tip compared to what is seen on the knight's swords of the era. Where the samurai would excel is with his favored weapon, the yumi, with which a samurai of skill (i.e., just about all of them) more than likely place an arrow in all the little slots of a knight's plate as he charged and is more than capable of penetrating chain mail. In short, it's entirely the skill of each combatant that decides the outcome, as a knight could wield a morning star and crush his way through a samurai's armor while a samurai could employ jujutsu to wrestle the knight to the ground and kill them with a well placed thrust under the helmet with a tanto. The only way to know for sure to win would be to travel back in time, kidnap two of them, and have them fight it out gladiator style... That, or have recognized masters today in full armor duke it out with wooden swords, though that would be a little difficult to rate, as you would need to know what constitutes a fatal blow whilst in armor.

Do either of them have a secret console code and a broadsword +1? Because it's common knowledge that nothing in life can't be solved with those.

It's good that everyone can use this thread to get the internet outta their system when posting. I'd rather get rolled here then someplace like the Medieval Swords thread.
Oh! An update on the whole Knight vs Samurai question.
My friend got "Deadliest Warrior - The Game" on his playstation last night. And so far here are the stats:
Knight vs Samurai: Knight has one 90% of the time. Also, we decided to do the community a service and run the "simulation" on...
Pirates vs Ninjas: Pirate has won around 80% of the time. Turns out that ninjas don't like to get shot... with bullets.
Oh, and I also learned that you can remove someone's head by throwing a spear through it. Who knew...
