I know this is probably going to be an unpopular opinion, but something really just doesn't sit right with me about those tacticals. I know the blade is an Atrim and that's about the best you can get without hacking off an arm and a leg, but the rest of it looks... Rather cheap, almost like a 20$ 'tactical' ninja sword you can buy at a flea market.

I'd be interested in seeing a Tac Gladius myself. Something that would strap easily to a rucksack and be good for CQB use in a pinch. Alot of service members would go nuts for something along these lines.

Thats sorta the point... The more recent tacticals look a bit different then what you see pictured here. They have a paracord grip, I saw one on Ebay a few months back, it was nice looking. However... they are not about looks. They are ALL about function. Thats the WHOLE point of the TacSwords. Gus's work has often been held up as pretty much the epitome of sword performance/function... but many have said they don't like the plain looks or the non-historic nature of many of his designs, and of the hex nut, and so on. Well, with Gus's work with Sonny at Valiant Armoury you can now get Atrim blades with a much nicer 'fit and finsih'... you can chose grip and scabbard colors and pommel and guard combos... all sorts of stuff. Hex nut or peened, whatever. The TacSwords are a non to what Gus Trim is known for... PURE FUNCTION. Swords not for a historic collecter but a modern day swordsmen who wants to put his stuff to USE. I know Tom and others will not be a fan... but I gotta say, I flat out LOVE them! I would not want my whole collection to be TacSwords... or even most or half of it... I love the beauty and history of swords. However... I do want a couple of these... as a nod to the modern swordsmen.

It may sound odd, but the idea of a paracord wrap changes my opinion. I don't know why, I just like the look of a decent paracord wrap and with that said, I'd want a jian (albeit with a straighter blade, since the one in the picture looks more like a rapier), a gladius, and a goose quill; I'm also loving the blade on that longsword. I guess it's just the wood scales that make it look cheap 'cause I've owned far too many kitchen knives like that and I just flat out don't like them. Guess I'm just strange like that.

Well, Gus said on the CSS forums that the Jian in that pic is not a representation of the TacJian... but a one off he made that had more profile taper then his TacJian did. So if you did get a TacJian it would likely have that strighter blade your talking about.

Then I'm sold. I've heard nothing but things about Gus' work, so I'm not worried about the quality of the blades; I guess it really was just the handle scales.

Hmm...I've never handled anything with a paracord wrap, but I've seen it, and I don't like the look of it. I think a molded kraton grip would be much better, albeit more expensive. I've actually become very fond of kraton.

I have one of the Cuttoes. Its a great little sword, perfect for defending a corridor. Blade length is 22 inches. The Willow Leaf is a little longer, with a blade somewhere around 27 inches

I remember when I first got into swords, the Tac Long was my day dream... night dream... all the time dream. But now that I've gotten my feet wet (with all the slain bottles) I would only consider getting one of these Tac's after I have an ATrim from his standard lines.
That isn't to say that I think the Tacs are less then his standard line in quality or anything, but I've grown to appreciate the classic look more over the past year.
Granted, if someone gave me 100,000 dollars and held a gun to my head and said "SPEND IT!" You'd bet that I'd have every one of these Tac blades.

Haha, I think if someone ever put a gun to my head and told me to spend that money, just to be a smartass, I'd probably ask if I could buy their gun. XD But no, seriously, I would spend that money in no time. I'd probably order everything I need to get my forge started, then use the rest for whatever swords and knives I wanted. Oh, and I'd buy an original Luger 9mm.
