Since I've been watching "The Colony" on tv it got me thinking about what I would do if I was stuck with about 8 other people after a major viral disaster where modern conveniences like electricity, running water and markets were not around. To put a skew on this I was wondering what items I would take from home if I was stuck out in the wilderness alone with the possibility of hostile people competing for scarce resources. It would have to be stuff I could carry. So I came ip with the following.
A rifle with bullets An axe or machete or short sword Folding knife, spoon & fork Binoculars Cold/warm weather cloths Hiking boots Hat Fire starting kit Backpack/ruck sack Waterbortle/canteen 1st aid kit Sunglasses Mosquito repellant Sunblock Radio
Any thoughts?

Oh god, is this limited what you can take on your back? (my list will be that). Well number one is I would have already picked a destination in the wilderness, and cached some things there. I actually plan to really do this in the future. anyway, in the cache I would have a shotgun, a ridiculous amount of ammunition for all my weapons, MREs, my entrenching tool, and other tools that i will need, but are too heavy to carry in my pack (Big saws, extra paracord, axe, etc).
In the Pack, I would have, and not limited to:
survival bowie knife, fighting knife, smaller fixed blade knife, tactical folder, utility knife, ATAX survival tool, multi-tool, sharpening puck, diamond sharpeners.
2 tube tents, 4 trash bags, folding saw, tarp, wool blanket, 3 pair wool socks, rain gear (jacket, pants), High top Hiking/combat boots, 2 bandanas, ass rag (like a bandana type thing used for tp),wool beanie, bowie hat, extra BDUs (Battle Dress Uniforms), a smaller pack, of course a water bladder, and a mini survival kit (with things like whistle, mirror, fish hooks, etc).
Of course a first aid kit, dental kit, mini surgery kit with surgery manual (I would probably get small ones for these kits, and stash more equipped kits), survival manuals, snares, around 200ft of 550 paracord, fishing line, and a little more that i cant remember atm.
A canteen, canteen cup, steel water bottle, mess kit, magnesium fire starter, that military fire fuel stuff lol, matches, a few lighters including the wind proof lighters, a few metal matches, compass, fish hooks, needles, thread, wind up power flashlight, a few candles, cotton balls and petroleum jelly in a tin, bug net, Iodine tablets, pump water filter, maybe 1-2 extra filters, (dont remember the other purification name, but you put an ounce of water in a bottle with the purification solution in there, wait 45 minutes, pour just the water into the rest of your water, and wait again and its purified), slingshot modified to shoot arrows (can still shoot stones), extra slingshot band thing, and caribiners.
Other than that, I want my 2 pistols on me, a tactical carbine, probably bulletproof vest and helmet, a lot of extra ammunition, will have a tactical vest holding extra mags, probably one knife, and im going to rig it so I can fit a Ko-Katana on there, a map, polarised glasses, and thats about it.
I thought about this for a long time (cant you tell?), and this is not everything I would bring, but its pretty close. Everything in this is going to be the most durable and lightweight as I can find. This is going to be a lot of weight, especially with firearms and extra ammunition, but all of it has its use, and will make it easier on you in the wilderness. Thats what I would have on me in the wilderness if SHTF.
