Hi, my name is Chris and I've loved swords every since i've been able to stand. I've only been professionally training with swords for about two 1/2 years and i've cut everything from milk jugs to bamboo.
None of the swords I own can cut tatami or even bamboo. I don't want to break myself by buying a very expensive blade. I've studied Haedong Kumdo so my feel my best with curved single edged swords.
Lately i've taken an interest in Paul Chan's Banshee sword, I read the review; however it didn't answer my important question.
Can the Banshee if sharpend correctly cut tatami or bamboo?

I'd say it most likely could. From what I understand (which isn't much, mind you), the PC Banshee is a modern recreation of the Thai Krabi/Burmese Dha, which was often as much a much a machete as a sword.

Did you check out the review here on SBG from Shooter Mike? He actually shot the sword with a .45 ACP caliber round!!! /index.cgi?board=swordreviews&action=display&thread=1893&page=1#32667He did state he was not too impressed with the original edge/sharpening so changed the edge geometry and resharpened it. I have personally seriously considered this blade and would say it should do you quite well cutting tatami or bamboo, but you might need to alter the edge geometry to be perfectly happy with it. If your not up to doing that sort of work then you might want to look at another sword.
