I was wondering if anyone has bought one of the stand-alone tsuka from Cheness for their Cheness swords? I'm asking because I'd like to get a Kaze, but I don't really care for the brown ito, and would prefer one with the blue that they sell. According to their site, they are "made for Cheness swords" but was wondering if anyone had gotten one, and how easy it was to swap out. How did it fit? Is it still a tight, good fit?

If you do get the blue one, it is made for the 30", and o-katana. You may or may not have to file a little wood. If if it is too tight, and you force it on to the nakago, you WILL split the wood.

I just got a new tsuka for my Kurome. Fit the same as the original but is an inch longer. Makes me question QC on the tsukas. That being said, the fit is extremely tight but I think that has to do with the curve of the tang. The Kurome has a greater curve than some of their other swords. It will not be drilled for mekugi and unless you have access to a drill press, don't even try it. I used a 7/32 cobalt bit for the bamboo mekugi and a 15/64 for the brass. A 15 degree angle put each hole dead center in each diamond. I have a 12" replacement for my Shura on the way, the 12' is usually used on the 30" + katanas, but Paul Chen assured me it would fit. If anything goes wrong remember that at the very least, You get fuchi, kashira, same panels, and some ito for about 25 bucks. It's still a good deal in my books.
