I ordered a small black ray and brown cotton ito a week ago or so and it arrived today! So I started right away with cutting out same parts from the very small ray, I got 4 parts that would fit exactly, the ray was just big enough. I glued the same parts to the tsuka, let it dry for an hour or so. Then I began with the tsuka maki, it is my first attempt so I was expecting some hard couple of hours. But it was not that hard as I expected but it took me 1,5 hours tho. It came out pretty well, the ito was to short(4 meters) but I managed to do some sort of knot involving alot of glue, but the tsuka is tight and the knot won't loose up that easy. Here it is: And yes I know the diamonds look like hell lol but it's functional atleast. Next time I do tsuka maki it will go a lot better, I learned a lot while doing it so I can recommend doing a makeover on your tsuka, it's fun and you learn a lot!

You're right, you learn a lot the first few times that you try itomaki, even if it doesn't end up looking that great. Do it a few more times and you'll have it down! +1

I've seen worse from so-called "professionals". Nice job, +1 from me too.

Thanks guys, I mounted my kat with the tsuka today and it feels a lot better than it did with the nylon ito and it's tight like hell, but the diamonds are bigger so it feels a little different.

So you took my advice, eh? Job well done, sl4k. Have a karma. By the way, how long is your tsuka? 11"? And how long of the ito did you buy? I'm doing another custom project and was wondering how much ito it needed. I'm going to learn from your mistake!! Muahahahahaha!! And finally, what's the theme of your... Katana/Tuska?

Yep! Thanks, yes my tsuka is 11" and I bought 4 meters. Well if you mean the koshirae it's "culture" on the tsuba there are a few different people doing stuff. And the fuchi and kashira have dragons on them. The things u have in your hands when you hold the tsuka(brainfreeze) are horses drawing a wagon.
