Hiya everyone, I think I'll settle with the Hanwei Cutting Jian, but I have a question about the scabbard! I don't know whether it's a light brown or a dark brown. Maybe I'm just too picky but the light brown scabbards kinda bothers me because it looks fakish and I perfer if it was dark! I don't know if its just the camera on these reviews or if its just me but what color are they exactly? Thanks...

If there is of any consolation, you could darken the scabbard by applying multiple coats of linseed oil and a piece of cloth. They could be found in some hardware store and it hardens the wood (somewhat) to increase resistance against scratches or light dents.

hmm, if I do that then how do I get around the metal fittings? I guess I would have to take them off?

I guess I would have to take them off? you would not need to remove fittings for linseed oil. however, my scabbard is more of a cocoa color. i am very satisfied with it. the fittings would be hard to remove since they are pinned on and not glued. which is one of the reasons that i like this sword. however, the tang nut was a problem for me... a fluke from what i understand from cas, and also others who own it... i say if you want a tough jian get it... and if you have tang nut prob check the repairs section on how i fixed mine.
