So I have decided to do a little sword customization in the near future, when it's completed it will be a Chinese Jian blade hidden in a cane. And it will look almost like the Zaitochi cane sword but with a Jian/tai chi blade instead of a hira zukuri blade.
Here is a picture of how I want it to be(and don't joke about my drawing skills ;/):
The proportions isn't really right but pretty close I think of how I want it to be. The whole creation will hopefully be around the length of a katana.
Here is a picture of the wood I hopefully will be using:
Not this wood block tho(duh), my father is using this one to carve a handle for his Mora knife. I have to chop down a tree or hopefully find one that's already chopped since we cleared our yard last summer. I don't know what kind of wood it is but it's hard like hell and beautiful to, probably some fruit tree or over sized flower bush.
The reason I want to have a light blade like the tai chi/Jian is because today when I was chopping some onions I was playing around with my global chef knife and I did some stuff. But then I realized that I could do this whipping motion if I put the knife between my point-finger and my tumb. And the knife would accelerate really quick so I tried to chop some stuff with it, and with this cutting motion I could cut of a branch of 1 centimeter in diameter with ease. So i figured if I had a light thin sword it could actually be a cool technique.
If u have a knife that's similar to mine or if u have a cane sword test this out:
Here is starting position.
And this is how it looks when the motion is done.
If this is in fact a real technique for lighter swords then I hope some of u that didn't know it will find it useful .
And any help tips for this project his highly appreciated. I need to find a good and cheap Jian/tai chi blade, a blade already mounted is ok to as long as I can remove the handle/furniture. And I also need a way for the blade to stay in the saya/cane.
So if you have any ideas at all don't be shy and tell me!
