I just got a CS Gim, and... well, it's freaking EPIC, quite possibly my favorite sword, even over blades more than 2x it's price; HOWEVER, I have one major question, as outlined by the title of this oh-so-illustrious thead. How the heck does the suspension work? I could think of two ways, but when I tried them, one felt wrong and the other left the sword hanging 4-6" too low. Here are a few pics to show the suspension, so you don't have to go look it up... (for those interested in this sword, please note that only the 1st pic, without flash, shows the color properly) So... you tell me, guys. I know NOTHING about Chinese swords, except that I want more after seeing and handling this epic beauty, lol, so it's up to you to figureo ut how this thingamajig works. Thanks! ;D -Slayer

Truth be told, I believe the Jian was supposed to be carried in hand, more so than on a belt. If you do go to put it on a belt I would just make new leather straps and do with it as you please. The suspension system included as set up will let the scabbard flop around a LOT when it's on your belt. Instead of the the two ties coming to a point, triangle-like, I would set it up so that they go directly to your belt. That would seem to be a MUCH more practical system for suspension. But again, I believe these swords were carried in hand.

/index.cgi?board=chineseswords&action=display&thread=18189 A whole thread on it. That's my thread, you know. ;D @slayer: To make a long story short, for this type of suspension system, there used to be a hook that attached to the belt and the ring (or square piece inn this case) would loop over the hook and it would hang there. It's not the only method, but it was certainly the most popular.
