That is very nice Brian. Does that Celtic knot on the pommel change the pob? Here is a handle I made for my cutlass.

Good job on the grip.
Pommel decor doesn't affect the POB at all, as it is hollow and very light weight.

Just wanted to post a quick pic of one of the most complicated grips I have done to date (because of the length and multiple risers). It's the grip on the custom A&A claymore that I reshaped/re-wrapped. The color is a custom color, what I call campaign worn oxblood. It's hard to see in the photo, but it's a deep oxblood color with streaks of chocolate brown (or chocolate brown with streaks of oxblood....your decision). Let me know what you think. And if anyone would want something similar done to one of theirs, PM me for pricing. Thanks, Dan

Dan, I love that color! I'm not that crazy about that many risers, but it's still a very unique and attractive look. Great job. Very clean and professional.

Thought I'd do a re-wrap on my Hot Steel Forge katana. Turned out OK-ish . Decided to go with leather and a piscean theme. Before After

Customization of a Paul Chen King Albrecht II hand and a half sword (PC2034). I aquired one as a second, having a loose pummel. I always liked the way the sword looked, but not the way it handled. the peen on the sword was it's defect, so small and off center it barely covered the hole in the pommel. I cut the handle, cut and reshaped the tang, repeened and re-wrapped it with some medium suede and a greek lace cross-wrap. with a few ounces of weight added to the hollow of the pommel, the blade handles beautifully now.

Nice work. I always wanted one of those. That and the Edward the III sword.

Thanks to all for the great information here! I've been planning a re-wrap project for some time, but lacked the info needed - no longer. Great work by all!
Does anyone have any resource or knowledge about "blackened wire" for grip wrapping? I've got a sword with black leather and would like to match the black with either all black or maybe a twisted black and copper. This is a "user" so the black should be as reisitant to wear as possible.

Hey, I like GuyC's katana job. I wonder where he got the Pisces fuschi. And the Tsuba is different which he didn't expand on. It looks really good.

Quick question, does anybody know offhand exactly how many and which Windlass blades are flaunting hollow pommels?
If so, another question, would filling the pommel with cold weld (JB Weld, etc), serve as a viable method to adding weight, or is it easier to scrap the pommel and find new?

Hey Kleveland. Shootermike has done it. I think it was a william marshall? Or some other Hanwei. He drilled a small hole in it and injected the epoxy. It will add the weight you want. What sword is it of which you speak?

Seeing all the great re wraps in this thread's really inspired me to try one. I'm gonna try red leather with the chord wrap. Might as well make a belt while I'm at it

Hey everyone, these are a few pic of my cutting sword/experimental sword project. This was only the second time I have done tsuka maki and I realize its far from perfect. That and it also has taken a little bit of a beating in the way of torquing whilst cutting since I finished the project some months ago. I just took some photos today "sorry im sort of a slacker!" and I'm sure you'll notice all the mistakes i've made, but enjoy. Basically this is a shinwa 1060 "emperor" (masahiro) that I have owned for a while, it was used quite frequently and the menuki had loosened up and the Ito needed to be tightened up, so I took it all apart and re did it "sans" menuki and it feels better , a lot better. It cleaned up the look a lot and the narrower feel of the tsuka is more easily controllable. About the "same," I replaced it with a chinese silk dragon pattern (this sword is made in china!) because I dont think it actually makes a big difference as far as grip goes in my opinion, Also considering my hands only grip the Ito and never have I felt any contact with the ray skin anyway. I think it looks more like my own now and less like all the others. It isn't too pretty but it works so good that I am going to do this with all my katanas in the future except with different materials for replacing the "same," I'd like to try some leather from a deer pelt next I think. I used spray tack to attach the cloth, and when I wrapped the Ito I ran it under scorching hot water for five minutes to let it expand and become more pliable. It shrinks a lot when it dries so unless you really make a big mistake wrapping, it all tightens up rock solid. This also got the glue off of the Ito wrap as well. Hope this helps. Domo arigato gozaimashita. ;D [/URL[URL=http://img142.imageshack.us/my.php?[URL=http://img126.imageshack.us/my.php [/URL[/URL

That has a nice well worn look to it. I like the new look on the scabbard esp. Not bad for a first time grip rewrap either.
For the bluing, multiple "coats" with buffing in between should even it out and make it darker. Good job ;D
