Hi guys, got a newbie question here. From where i'm living, you can't tell the how much grit a sandpaper is. You only can tell by roughness. So here's the thing. Is the rougher the paper, the higher the grit or the other way around? Thanks .

The rougher the paper the lower the grit. Most woodworking paper is around 150-300 grit.
If you want anything useful you'll have to check the automotive department at whatever store you have that would have one.
Where do you live btw?

I think the number is the number of grains per cm2 or something. so the higher the finer. It usually says on the back of the paper

Rougher paper = lower grit.
Finer paper = higher grit.
When polishing, start rough, and progressively move up to finer paper to remove the scratched from the one before. You can move up as far as pieces of printer paper if you're willing to spend the time for an absolute mirror polish.
Personally, I prefer wet-sanding. Everything goes smoother.

Yes, that is how I do it too. It works very well. Just have to be precise and have a steady hand.

I see. Karma to you Roller. So to my understanding, 2000 grit means a very smooth sandpaper and 100 grit is extremely rough sandpaper?
