Hey everyone, I was just browsing Kult of Athena, and was wondering if anyone could give me their opinions or suggestions, or even experience regarding three certain swords that I've been looking at. They all are above the $300 mark, but regardless, I am looking to add one of them to my collection when I can afford it. So hear they are. Hanwei's Sir William Marshall Sword ("Damascus" blade): kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=PC2001Del Tin's Schiavonesca: www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=DT5152&name=Del+Tin+Schiavonesca+Sword#Hanwei's Charlemagne Saber: www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=SH2288&name=Hanwei+Charlemagne+SaberNow, I know the saber does look quite gaudy, but I absolutely love the blade design. If I could have that blade on a different hilt, I would do so, but I've never seen a saber with such beautiful lines. Considering the weight and point of balance, it seems that it would handle equally as beautiful. So everyone, what do you think?

I think the gaudiness of the gold could be forgiven in this instance. That Charlemagne saber is very detailed I like the ray skin on the grip especially. Very lovely sword overall. The glamor pictures always make a sword seem more flashy than it is in person. I bet that this sword would be "just right" plus there's always KoA's 45 day no questions asked money back guarantee so if you got it and really didn't like it, just heft it back to them and pick up one of the others.

I would to buy the Charlemagne saber. Very beautiful and still functional weapon. Del Tin is a good and nice looking sword but quite a beast according to KOA's stats. And Hanwei Marshall looks very nice but I'm not sure how good performer it would be. It sure is lovely with folded steel blade.

Ive not handled any of these so can't comment on how they handle, but of the three I like the sword of Charlemagne the most. yes its a little gaudy, but as a representation of a historical sword that's forgiveable, I do like the overall shape of the sword.
I do not like the Schiavonesca sword, I just don't like what it looks like.
the other one I'm largely indifferent to. I think there are better examples of this type of sword on the market.

Hi there, About the Del Tin Schiavonesca, you can find reviews here: www.myarmoury.com/review_dt5152.htmlFrom this review, I gather the handling characteristics for this model are far from ideal... here's another opinion: www.tritonworks.com/reviews?content=reviews&review=deltin_5152 (the picture is actually of the 2152 but the stats show that he is really talking about the 5152) BTW, Del Tin has another model of Schiavonesca (#2152)...maybe this one has better handling properties? I, personnally, really like these type of fittings -both on an arming type sword and long one- but wonder if going the custom or DIY way wouldn't be better than going with Del Tin at the prices they are at now...(custom made or DIY fittings on a Hanwei/Tinker blade?) About the Hanwei "damascus" Marshall: I believe there are better swords of this type on the market now (none having a pattern welded blade thought)... Charlemagne Saber: hmmm...if I wanted a saber of that type, myself, I'd go for one like those offered by Viktor Berbekucz: www.berbekuczviktor.hu/Just my two-cents... p.s,: if you get the Schiavonesca, I would be very interested in pics and review!

SanMarc: Whoops! Sorry about that! I fixed it real quick. ^_^ @violentserenade: Hmm...true. And yeah, I don't care for the gold, but it does look like it would cut very well. Luka: Yes, the Schiavonesca IS quite a beast, but that's what I like about it. For a sword of this type, that is EXACTLY what I'm looking for. @kingrat: I can understand that. Everyone has their own tastes. As for the Sir William Marshall sword, I like it because it seems like it would cut very well, as well as give a strong thrust. I like the ridged design, and I haven't seen any other swords of this type with that feature. Reflingar: Wow, thanks for the links! ^_^ As for DIY stuff, I am currently in the process of trying to get my own forge up and running, so I'll be doing that in due time. From what I hear, people talking about becoming a bladesmith around here is practically taboo, but I am very serious about it. It has been my dream for years. Anyway, I've never heard of Viktor Berbekucz. Does he speak English? But hey, it's alright, I appreciate your two cents. I'm looking for advice. Oh, and of course I'd take some pictures, regardless of what I get. I actually have been meaning to post a review on Cold Steel's 1796 saber, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. >.>

Alright, so here's my .02 cents. I believe that Mike actually had a bit of trouble with his William Marshal, so I might actually shy away from that particular model. Hopefully, he'll weigh in and give you the low down. Of all of those, I would most Certainly go for the Charlamagne saber. It seems to me that you're looking for a unique weapon to really stand out from the crowd and I totally get that. However, if you want a saber, I would save up some, get a Valiant Armoury Warder, and have it customized to your specs. It will look less gaudy, and to all reports, that saber cuts like a laser!
To sum, Yes the charlamagne, but I'd just save up and get a VA Warder.

To sum, Yes the charlamagne, but I'd just save up and get a VA Warder. Yes, I read about that. His, it seems, was the standard version. However, the one I'm eying is the pattern-welded version, which according to KoA, weighs a little less and has a balance point about 2 inches closer to the hilt. It may be that their "damascus" edition of the Sir William Marshall sword is of higher quality. It certainly does look nice, and I don't mind something a little blade heavy. As for the Warder, I actually had my eye on that a while back, but I'm not so sure about that guard or pommel. The blade also reminds me of a katana, which might explain the laser-like cutting. Plus, when it comes to sabers, I prefer a single-handed weapon. Not to say that the Warder isn't good, because honestly, it looks like an extremely deadly, efficient weapon. It just doesn't suit my taste quite as well. If I were to get a Warder, though, and have it customized to my specs, it would practically be a total overhaul of its design. Oh, and yes, I am looking for something more unique. In most cases, I love uniqueness in a sword.

Custom Odinblade? You like the Warder, but want it a bit different... go to the source, man. It'll be well worth it, I'm sure. Just my $0.02, as none of the swords you listed interest me... the Warder is at the top of my to-get list, though. HTH, -Slayer

To be honest, the only thing I like about it is the blade. >.> Well, either way, I still have plenty of time to think about it. I'm currently out of work, so it'll be a while before I have the money.
