This has been a maddening search and I'm hoping someone here might have some ideas. *crosses fingers** Might anyone know if there is ANY other manufacturer for a functional Zhan Ma Dao/Kangsi than Enlightenment Swords? www.enlightenmentswords.com/product/dao_zhong_yi.htmlI ask this because when you look for the price, they say "inquire first" which seems to imply to me the "if you have to ask you can't afford it" factor. :/ A friend of mine has wanted one of these for years and finding one that isn't the general cheesy replica "Kangsi Sword" has yielded little. Has anyone here dealt with Enlightenment Swords? Any thoughts would be deeply appreciated. Thanks as always in advance.

Jkoo/Sinosword has one if you're willing to trust their company. There have been mixed reviews of their products as of late: www.sinosword.com/ProductShow/?p=Horse-Chopping-Saber-Dao-zhanmadao A fellow forumite used to have this sword and sold it here in the classifieds not too awfully long ago when he was hard on his luck. Alternatively, Garret Chan of Jin-Shi has become a well known name around here for his stringent quality controls and inspection of all the swords that the forge he uses produces. He has top-notch customer service and unlike dealing with many chinese forges, he lives in North America (Canada) and speaks English fluently. I know I have shown him several swords that were outside of what his forge normally does (mostly jian and dao), but each time he has said it wouldn't be a problem to produce. HE would be my suggestion for you.

hanabushi that Zhan Ma Dao is around 300US. I can get you a more accurate quote from Sifu Even Chen if you like, but that was the price I remembered quoted to me a few months ago.
Currently I'm working on a functional Kangxi Dao Project myself, as I can not find a good looking and funtional Kangxi Dao. I've got most of my design down and now just need to make up my mind of where to get it made within a reasonable budget ;D

It would not be an immediate purchase as money is tight right now, but it would definitely give her a target she can shoot for saving. Thank you very much.

It will of course be up to her, thank you for the link.

Thanks to all who posted links and advice, this has really let me know that there is more out there than we'd originally thought!
