I have a quick question for anyone who owns/has owned one of these fine looking blades. I know it's not meant for cutting (none of Hanwei's Chinese swords, except the Cutting Jian, are), but I was wondering if it can be disassembled?

Nope, the tang is glued. Might be possible if you boiled it for a while, then tried turning the bolt.

It might be worth making a standard email to then send to all the sword retailers you know of, asking if they have any factory seconds with damaged fittings?

Hmm. Good point. I'll have to keep an eye out on Kult of Athena's dent & scratch section; or just buy a second one that I can tear apart.

I've thought about doing that, but the style the custom calls for is the open Ming style present on the Adam Hsu design.

Have you thought about contacting someone like Ollin to see if they would be interested in casting you a set from scratch? They seem to do excellent castings for their own swords.

I'd post the sketch I sent him, but I suck so horribly at drawing your eyes would probably bleed and I really want to keep it under wraps until it's done, but I haven't really been doing a great job on that end since I've been dropping hints here and there.
