Hello all!
About 7 years ago I used to own the practical tai chi sword and also the rosewood tai chi.
I sold them all as I am in the habit of constantly rotating my collection.
I used to really love these swords due to being so nice and light and fun, I didn't do any cutting with them, although I have seen people cut cardboard.
However recently I have had a bout of nostalgia and I am thinking of buying one of these swords again.
The rosewood tai chi sword seems to be no longer in production and it looks like they have updated the practical with a grip similar to that found on the Adam Hsu.
I really like the simple style of the practical and I am not keen on the down-turned guard of the hsu, nor do I particularly like the blade, which is too unhistorical.
One would think that its a simple choice, but I am very concerned with the durability of the swords. From what I have read they have a reputation for having a rubbish tang filled with epoxy and that the fittings are liable to move around and the nuts/bolts unloosening inside.
I am wondering if due to being more premium and up to date, the adam hsu would have a better tang construction and be overall more durable with its more updated design. Or if the practical with its minor grip change has also had the internals tweaked to match that of the adam hsu.
I do not practice Tai chi and am buying the sword just as a collectors item, although it will dry handled a lot.
I am wondering as to which one you would suggest and if you know if the tang has been updated or is any good on the adam hsu?
The old style swords, note the smooth rounded grips and the two now discontinued models on the right.
