I recently bought the DSA Elf sword off the internet. Already I am concerned about the BRIGHT BLUE leather grip it has and am considering what my options are to change the color. I will probably stick to basic black but am not sure. Can the blue leather be dyed right on the sword? I was thinking of doing that but am not sure if the leather has some kind of treatment which would prevent the dye from sticking to it. Surely, someone else has worked on this. Should it be scuffed up before I put the new dye on? Also, Brian said in another thread that the blue grips on the DSA site are really black in real life. Is this true? Seems impossible that they would allow such a photographic misrepresentation.

It was my mistake. Some of the photo's I've seen of their grips looked a little blue, or in some cases gray. Afterwards, when I received my swords they were black. However, if the site stipulates it is blue, then it will be. But probably darker than the photo reveals. DSA photo's tend to be brighter, making the grip look lighter than it is.

dand- Thank you. That was a very useful link. I may try using something a little more aggressive that rubbing alcohol to pretreat the grip though. I will have this to look forward to next week.
