I am looking to have a sword made. I want a cossack shashka, and I can't find any reproductions. Does anyone know of a good custom designer? It's a fairly simple design. www.russianswords.com/shashka-raz2.JPGFrom Wikipedia- Shashka is a special kind of sabre and a very sharp type of single edged, single handed and guardless sword. In appearance the shashka was midway between a full sabre and a straight sword. It had a slightly curved blade with double edges and could be effective for both slashing and thrusting. The blade was either hollowed or fullered. There was no guard, but a large, curved pommel.

Matt,
Have you scoured ebay for a real shashka? I have seen a whole bunch of them for sale there, in varying conditions and varying degrees of ornateness. The prices run from exhorbitant down to quite affordable. I seem to recall some of the military grade ones were under $300.
Just a thought...

Does he do anything else besides swords? I would like to have a functioning Mjolnir (War Mallet) made. Much like in the comic book, "Thor".

He's forged me a custom boar spear I should be getting this weekend. I've seen a lot of armor Dan's built and it looks like good stuff too. It wouldn't surprice me if he hasn't already made a war mallet or three.

Thanks for the response Shooter. Sounds good. How are his prices?

Uhmmm...mostly...costly, as high-quality hand work is expensive of course. The boar spear was $250. That includes a forged head, forged band with toggle set 24 inches behind the head, a ball-shaped buttcap and an 8 foot shaft that spent a month soaking up many coats of lemon oil.
All in all, his prices are quite fair.

That's not bad at all. About what I had anticipated. Thanks again.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I will check ebay first, because an authentic one would be too cool. If I can't get it, I'll try Dan.
