Doesn't exist, I know it depends on what you want it to do...
So in your opinion what is the best cutting sword for the back yard cutter? For water bottles and pool noodles.
One of those "specialized goza cutters" from Cheness? Maybe a light arming sword or the windless scimitar? hardware store machete?
Thoughts, opinions, or actual facts, will all be appreciated.

The best sword is one you have in your hand. All those you don't got at the moment are just nothing compared to the one your actually having and holding. At least that is my feeling.

Depending on ones preference of one or two handers, either one of these.
VA Arming
VA LS

Go with either the Hanwei/Tinker line, or the Valiant Armoury/ATrim line.
Solid swords, good performers, priced within the reach of most.

Japanese Style - Dynasty Forge or Ronin Katana entry level.
European Style - Hanwei/Tinker line, or the Valiant Armoury Practical ATRIM models.

The best sword is what feels best to you. I've held $4000 swords I'd not give $0.02 for, and held $150 swords that I'd easily pay significantly more for. I've owned swords that I felt were the best at the time, yet got something later that was better a little down the road. It's all in what you prefer... I second the recommendations for the VA304S and the H/T PLS. Both are quite nice, the VA comes with a little better edge out of the box, but H/T edge is fine with a little work. I like the blade profile of the H/T a little better.

For backyard cutting?
In my opinion, VA Arming:
And don't forget:
I like the weight, the balance, the stiffness of the blade, everything. But I'm told that it pales next to an Atrim.
So like Effable... who took the words right out of my mouth... I think the VA 303s is the best cutter because I own it and it works for me. I have the VA Longsword, and it's fun, but I don't get near the silent cuts. I also have an HT GSOW, which has gotten some silent cuts, but I still need to work on the blade. I've also cut with sabers, machetes and katanas, but I like the VA Arming sword the best.

I have got a chance to handle a first gen spatha from Albion. It is a bit heavy and has a forward balance. It may be a turnoff to some but man that thing doesn't cut, it slashes ;D. I like my swords relatively light and has a nice forward balance for slashing. Unfortunately the spatha that handles well are too expensive for my budget (Albion 2nd gens, custom made pieces). Maybe I should just aim for DelTin Roman cavalry spatha or... pry that Albion from a friend of mine (with cash of course!)
