In This thread: /index.cgi?board=armour&action=display&thread=1558 was a discussion of some rather different armours.
Of particular note was this one:
armstreet.com/store/armor/1/302.html
After I made a quick comment about not wanting to damage the pretty armour on their website, I was contacted by Mike about what changes I would make before using it in the SCA. We discussed it it, and I ended up ordering my modified version.
30 days later, they found a sufficient supply of the materials I wanted for the armour and set to work. 30 days later, communication petered out. Their customer service lady isn't very good.
However, they had a booth set up at Pennsic and Mike had flown in with the original of this armour, so I got to talk with them. Turned out my armour was in the mail by the end of Pennsic, customer service was just sucking, but everyone else was on the ball and Mike and his fellows at the Pennsic Armstreet booth were embarassed by that.
As it turns out, as of today, Armstreet has made exactly 2 pieces of this armour. Mine and the display piece pictured on their website (that's Mike in it). These are great guys and the armour they produce is even better. Now that they have been to Pennsic and seen what we're wearing in the SCA, expect some SCA specific pieces to come out.
So, today, I got my armour.
And it is Gorgeous.
It took me a minute to figure out how to put it on. At first I didn't realize the tassets were held up with suspenders and a belt. And I had to assemble the tassets. They weren't hanging from the belt already. A little bit of confusion there because while there is a right way and a wrong way to hang the tassets (they are different, right and left), they aren't marked as to which is which. I put it together wrong the first time.
So, without further ado, this is my old gear:
(I don't have any stills of it, just the video, I'll have to correct that after my wife gets home)
And here's the new:
(I'll add pics with the helm, legs and arms after my next fight practice)
This is a leather brigandine. The inner layer is blue cotton, the outer a silk de chine in black. It's a little bit of a pain to try to get it on and I shudder to think what trying to get into it with all the rest of my gear will be like without help, though I am pretty sure it's doable.
