How many of you folks would be interested in having a static chat to hang out in? Edit: Setup a temp Proboards account and activated the chat addon. Guest access is on, so no need to create an account. Let's test it out. Ifen we like it...we can see about getting it setup here maybe. I'm there now. sbgchat.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=chat

Hey Bruce, as I said in the other thread, sword nation forum has a chat function and it's proboard. You could always ask Rich how he did his.

I hope lots of us use it... and that our trolls be few in number. I can't slice through the internet with a katana.

I can't slice through the internet with a katana. You're doing it wrong. This isn't a new idea, we discussed it...must have been more than a year ago. Didn't end well, as we can see. The idea of a sort of "shoutbox"-type interface on this forum sounds good, but I do fear what it may become. Worth a shot, though, I say.

Credit goes to Greg for suggesting it this time around. As far as it become a trolling ground for knuckleheads, we'd definitely want some admin tools for kicking (chopping?) the kiddies.

I can't slice through the internet with a katana. You're doing it wrong. Are you sure? I love that pic. Unfortunately, I can't remember which of us made it.

I love that pic. Unfortunately, I can't remember which of us made it. Gaffer did. And it's fantastic.

But of course. Every once and a while we need general statement of gaffer's awesome-itude anyways.

Funny, i suggested we do this exact same thing through Twitter, but everybody was against it...
Oh well, just want to see the people happy! ;D
On a side note - Paul should probably have been consulted about this before anything was started in his forum's name, but it should be all good.
Wouldn't be getting to used to ProBoards though, SBG's is heading to bigger and better places soon.

I remember the twitter thing, seems a lot of us were just against the idea of twitter itself. Funny, I've tried several times to get into the chat...but it keeps giving me a server error and telling me to try again later.

^It works fine for me, but does that if I try the Sword NAtion one... I don't think proboards' chat works very well! -Slayer

Wouldn't be getting to used to ProBoards though, SBG's is heading to bigger and better places soon. Sorry to quote your whole post, I usually hate it when people do that. But I plan on replying to all of it. As far as twitter goes, I think that having the chat on the same webpage that we all come to on a daily basis would make more people want to use it. Also, twitter has sort of a mixed reputation for a lot of people. I see it as 95% people who post about the "AWESOME Frapalatte" they just drank. Then the other 5% use it to announce product updates, etc etc. I thought about going to Paul first, but I'll be honest. I emailed him once about putting the page of stickies in their own separate "Sticky" thread and just keeping the Forum Rules as a real sticky. (Because honestly, do we really need to know about "Pre-Orders for the SBG katana" Or "SBG Katana Arrival". Don't get me wrong, I'm jazzed that we have our own sword, but... well, I'll get back on topic. So I didn't have a good question/response ratio with Paul in the past, so I didn't want to take my chances in asking him if the idea wouldn't catch on in the first place. (In retrospect, I probably should have asked you or another admin about neatening up the stickies, oh well, hindsight and all that) And SBG is moving!? Not really a big surprise I suppose. After the run in with Proboards about the Vendors section, which is kinda what SBG does, what with the whole bridging the gap between consumer and vendors/makers to take a lot of the guess work out of buying a sword) But I'm thrilled to actually hear that a move will be in the near future. Oh, and PM sent. As the rest of this doesn't pertain to the thread.
