A.K.A. Vincent's Design Thread, so don't kill me on the name; I was bored.
Anyways! Like so many of our wonderful members, I have a penchant for designing weapons, whether they be for one of the novels I'm writing or just something that could be used today, such as in the military. However, unlike our wonderful designers, I lack any artistic skill, except with the written word (read: my drawing sucks and will make your eyes bleed), so when it comes to the designs I post here, I hope you have good visualization skills.
I also have a penchant for designing vehicles, such as a personal aircraft that could be stored in a hall closet or the idea of adapting MagLev technology into cars, trucks, and motorcycles through the simple use of a magnetic plating underneath or even above the asphalt of normal roadways. However, since this is a weapons forum, those won't get to see the light of day; at least not here. Besides, genius I.Q. or no (and I seriously disagree with every test that has said I possess one), I don't always fully understand the concepts, so they only sound good in theory.
Without further ranting, I do believe I'll put up my first design, which, if the muse descends, I'll attempt to illustrate it, though for any bleeding eyeballs or blindness that comes about... I apologize, but I claim no responsibility.
This first design is one I've been quite interested in for a very long time and one I hope many people would like, though I would greatly appreciate any input on it since it's not a weapon of my forte. In short, it is a shield and I don't use shields, so for anyone who trains with the shield and sword, I would, again, appreciate input. These are the basic specs that I dreamed up to make it not just a shield, but a medieval themed weapons system of sorts:
*Kite shield with the forearm straps arranged so that the shield stands straight up with the narrower end near the head & shoulder and the wider end over the hand.
*Strapped to the forearm with two leather straps so as not to limit the hand when wielding a two-handed/hand-and-a-half sword.
*Steel edged with a sharpened protrusion over the hand, similar to a katar or punch dagger; a small handle out of the way of the hand would be added for extra power when employing the shield as such.
*Possibly a spring loaded repeating crossbow on the outer side with spare bolts in a quiver/magazine on the inner side; would be fired through a trigger on the handle.
*Overall construction would be overlapping wood slats with a shallow boss at the wider end; shield would be curved slightly for better weapon deflections.
