Alright I got this crazy Idea in my head and I have been drawing it for a while now. I want to make a set of black leather gauntlets. Light armor so it will look a lot like the plate but with thick leather with studs. I will try to post some pics of the drawing tomorrow. I just need to know where I can get some thick good leather to do this with. I tried Ebay but didnt find anything. Any Ideas?

Springfield leather has good prices. Call up and tell them you want cheap armor grade leather (about 12oz). I side should cost you $80 to $90. If they try to sell you anything more expensive ask for Kevin who will know what to give you. springfieldleather.com/store/For leather that thick do not use the two sided jiffy rivets. Get aluminum rivets. Rivets get from RJ Leahy in California. The 3/16 aluminum Brazier head . I usually get the 1/2 inch long, and a few 3/4 for thick buckles. Get the softer aluminum of the two options!! The #8 Stainless washers I get from a company in Wisconsin called McFeely's. The are something like $13 per 500. Make sure you get the SAE #8 washers.

Sorry I have been having some computer issues here. Thanks for the leather links I got some stuff coming and have started making a pattern for the gauntlets. Any Ideas on gloves to put it on? I got some decent work gloves that I got from well... work. I work in a foundry so the gloves do have some soft leather on them already.

I much prefer copper rivets. They cost a little more but last much longer than aluminum and are easier to work than steel. #9 is my preferred thickness and length will depend on how many pieces you're joining. For 12oz leather, 2 pieces should be joined with 1/2 inch rivets. Well, really, they cost a Lot more. $10 for 75 rivets from most suppliers. I use Tandy.
I do recommend a small supply of chicago screws. 10-20 of them should be enough. They will allow you to assemble pieces to see how they fit and move together but still be able to take them apart easily.

I was kinda wondering How I was gonna fasten them together for a trial run.

I'm looking to get a good pair of gauntlet mittens that are about mid forearm length. I want them roomy so I wear extra gloves under them. I would prefer them to be leather. Any suggestions? Thanks

On the lower end of price and artistry, but higher end of protection, SCA Aethelmearc has a leather armourer in New Castle, PA who can get you what you want. Robert James Koepke II also produces the Viking Home Companion music and stories that you can find on Youtube.
I have a pair of his demi-gauntlets.
