This thread was in the now defunct section, but few were able to see it before the changes. As stated in the original post, this is a custom piece made for me, and is not for sale. I waited decades to finally get one, and it means more to me than money.
The original post:
Here's the look at my first custom piece. The blade is one of my folded elites. I prefer soushu kitae blades, but the movies/series featured a folded blade, so that's what I had forged. This one is not for sale, I had it made for myself.
The handle is the Jose De Braga H3 sword, called Third Tatsu (dragon). The important thing about this one, is that it's not a core. It is a special mixture of tooling resin and carbon kevlar fabric which was custom molded to fit on the existing tang of my blade. It's about as close to indestructible as I could arrange to have made. A single solid brass mekugi holds the blade in place. It's not glued, and can be taken apart as easily as if I had a traditional tsuba on it. The friction fit is amazing, and over all is tight as a drum.
This one was custom made for me by Daryl Kyle at Texas Steel Props & Replicas. texasspr.com/Home.html I had mine aged to make it look more like carved ivory.
The tsuba is sold brass which has been hand filed in the Sukashi style to give it depth. It's an amazing piece all by it's self. Easily one of the nicest tsuba I've owned. The fuchi was hand cut, and is also of brass. I added in seppa, even though the movie version did not have them.
Over all, this is exactly what I wanted. A fully functional replica of one of my favorite Hollywood swords. Who didn't see highlander and want the sword?
Toughness wise, this thing is a rock. I don't view swords as things that sit on the shelf and look nice. If something is in my collection, it has to be fully functional. I plan on cutting with it as soon as I get a chance.
Here are a few pics I manged to take before the storm hit.
