As my next project is looking like a Nag. mounting effort I am looking for a ferrule or counterweight made of either Iron or steel. Obviously, I am on a budget so I am open to suggestions or improvisations . I think forum member Kev has mounted one already but haven't heard from him in a while. Basically it has to be heavy enough to counterweight the blade, so I was also thinking maybe 'burying' a weight in the end of the pole shaft as an idea

I think Lohman's is about it. The black 'butt' at the far right is $US45 + post. The whole set is $US350, but too flashy for my liking.

finnials are your friend here, the most suitable ones are found in the curtain and linen section of places like Kmart, BigW, Spotlight etc etc (finnials are the decorative things that go either end of a curtain rod) Sometimes some of the better hardware stores carry gate finnials, but they can be too big, also good furniture restoration places will sell brass and wooden ones that are designed to sit on things such as victorian wardrobes, dressing table mirrors etc etc if you like the style some doorknobs also look decent as Ishizuki traditionalhardware.com.au/ place the family furntiure place uses, vouch for the quality of their stuff... Edit: may be useful, patina forulas... www.sciencecompany.com/patinas/patinaformulas.htm

F**kin' lethal, cheers Mike. I'll never look at curtain shops the same way again ! ;D Thanx guys. I had the plumbing pipend idea, but the finnial thing never occured to me . Problem is most of these fittings are rounded when really I'm looking (as you know) for an ovular shape to the polearm.
